Work involves maintaining an inventory of parts and materials for all plant manufacturing and facility equipment. The Buyer is responsible for purchasing assigned or designated parts and services from an approved list of vendors, as well as inventorying, stocking, and issuing part supplies as needed. responsibilities:
- Source and purchase MRO supplies, spare parts, tools, and services in accordance with company policies and procedures. Prepare purchase orders and send copies to suppliers and to departments with originating requests.
- Work closely with maintenance planners, supervisors, technicians, and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and inventory levels. Prepare, maintain, and review purchasing files, reports, and price lists. Checks parts catalog for proper part identification.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to quality, delivery, or invoicing.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and procurement regulations.
- Assist in developing and maintaining preferred supplier lists and vendor relationships.
- Use CMMS or ERP systems to track orders, inventory, and maintenance schedules as well as updating work order status to reflect delivery timelines and forecasts.
- Complies with all regulations regarding the handling of hazardous materials. Obtain Material Safety Data Sheets as required from vendors.
- Procures equipment and specialized tools required to perform work.
- Calculate costs of orders and charge or forward invoices to appropriate accounts.
- Compare suppliers' bills with bids and purchase orders to verify accuracy
- Locate suppliers, using sources such as catalogs and the internet, and interview them to gather information about products to be ordered
additional responsibilities as needed:
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to forecast demand and manage stock levels.
- Assembles and fills orders as requested. Issues parts to open work orders as parts are distributed to mechanics. Determine if inventory quantities are sufficient for needs, ordering more materials when necessary. Issues replacement parts to mechanics; assists mechanics in choice of parts.
- Bar codes all inventory parts for tracking usage
- Monitor in-house inventory movement and complete inventory transfer forms for bookkeeping purposes
- Gathers necessary engineering, contractors, technical documents, specifications, and drawings.
- Plans parts for all projects to increase "wrench time" and increase efficiency.
- Compiles information into a job package that is ready for mechanics - clearly communicates regarding critical steps in the process for part rebuilds and/or replacements

- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Experience with CMMS/purchasing software systems.
