Job Description

About the Role:

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) is seeking a creative, connected, and highly organized Marketing Manager, Community & Social to grow and energize our global developer community 365 days a year.

In this dual-focus role, you'll drive strategy and execution across GDC's organic social platforms and lead community management initiatives across spaces like Discord, Reddit, and other ecosystems. You'll be both a digital storyteller and a trusted community builder, shaping vibrant, inclusive environments where game developers feel seen, heard, and celebrated.

This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who understands how online engagement can drive long-term brand love, loyalty, and advocacy. If you're fluent in internet culture, gaming discourse, and the power of a well-timed meme - or a well-handled Reddit thread - then this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Management

  • Develop and implement GDC's year-round community engagement strategy across key platforms - such as Discord, Reddit, WhatsApp, or others - based on audience needs and communication trends.
  • Actively engage in conversations across community and social platforms by responding to questions, monitoring trends, and maintaining a respectful, inclusive environment.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members, influencers, superfans, and ambassadors to deepen connection, encourage user-generated content (UGC), and strengthen brand advocacy.
  • Launch and manage community-driven activations (i.e., AMAs, virtual meetups, contests, and partnerships), including oversight of GDC's Call for Partners and ongoing community partnership programs.
  • Surface community insights, audience sentiment, industry trends, emerging voices, and UGC opportunities that position GDC as the essential voice in game development as well as inform content, programming, and event strategy into the broader GDC brand experience.
  • Track and report on community health, sentiment, and engagement KPIs.

Organic Social Media

  • Grow and manage our community through consistent engagement, social listening, and real-time platform management.
  • Own and execute GDC's organic social media strategy across LinkedIn, TikTok, Bluesky, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, and YouTube.
  • Create and schedule engaging, on-brand content that drives reach, shares, and conversation - including session spotlights, announcements, UGC, memes, and short-form videos, as well as GDC-produced materials such as research reports, whitepapers, and interviews.
  • Collaborate with marketing, creative, programming, and sales teams to align content with major campaigns, announcements, and partner moments.
  • Use data to continuously optimize social content, cadence, and channel strategy to meet brand and campaign goals.
  • Support live social coverage during GDC and other marquee moments.

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000, depending on experience.

This positing will automatically expire on August 5, 2025

Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience managing branded social media and/or online communities, ideally for a B2B, event, or entertainment brand.
  • Deep familiarity with internet culture, gaming communities, and platforms like Discord, Reddit, and LinkedIn.
  • A skilled, empathetic communicator who can adapt tone, resolve conflict, and spark conversation across diverse digital spaces.
  • Experienced in content creation, platform strategy, and social analytics - confident interpreting data and turning insights into action.
  • Naturally collaborative, organized, and self-directed; able to manage multiple projects across channels with clarity and creativity.
  • Passionate about the games industry and excited by the opportunity in creating authentic, year-round relationships with developers.
  • Bonus points for: experience with Sprout Social or similar tools, live event social coverage, basic video or graphic editing, or prior work in the games ecosystem.
