Overview

The Senior Specialist works directly with various Con Edison and/or Orange & Rockland operating operations and various support groups to enhance their emergency management process through preparedness, planning and coordination of company resources during emergencies and subsequent response and recovery efforts. The Senior Specialist's primary function is to oversee a variety of business resiliency programs and projects, to streamline processes, and to improve the overall emergency preparedness and resiliency efforts for the company.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • The Senior Specialist works directly with various Con Edison and/or Orange & Rockland operating operations and various support groups to enhance their emergency management process through preparedness, planning and coordination of company resources during emergencies and subsequent response and recovery efforts.
  • The Senior Specialists primary function is to streamline processes and manage project improvements to support the overall emergency preparedness and resiliency efforts for the company.
  • Support the System Emergency Assignment (SEA) Program, including working with SEA Coordinators to maintain their assignment lists.
  • Manage data related to the SEA Program, such as training compliance and assignments.
  • Support coordination, development, and evaluation of business resiliency exercises and others, as needed.
  • Support training initiatives, including data analytics, for the SEA program and other projects, as required.
  • Participate in special projects within Emergency Preparedness Business Resiliency that may require interaction with organizations both within and outside the Company
  • Perform on-call responsibilities as a Duty Liaison, which includes rotational coverage of a 24/7 hotline and interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote and support the Companys commitment to the use of emergency management principles; the ICS during emergencies and exercises, and compliance with Corporate Instruction (CI) 260-4.
  • Promote and support a team-oriented, diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication, presentation and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ideal candidate will have completed a project management course or can demonstrate experience successfully managing projects in previous roles.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of relevant experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Basic knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS) principles. Required
  • Candidate should exercise independent judgment and render sound business and policy decisions. Required
  • Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, flexible and be able to handle multiple tasks, changing priorities, and achieve critical deadlines. Required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are required in order to effectively interact with regulatory agencies, regional operations. Required
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Required
  • Two to three years of project/program management or operational work experience. Preferred
  • Two to three years of experience performing data analytics and/or compliance. Preferred
  • Basic understanding of the operation of energy commodity systems (e.g., electric overhead and/or underground distribution systems, steam, gas, substations and transmission operations). Preferred

  • Other: Training in ICS Basic (ICS-100), ICS-700, Advanced ICS (ICS-200), ICS-300, FEMA IS-120 and IS-130 must be satisfactorily completed within 1 year of hire. 1 Year Required
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for entire shift.
  • Must stoop, bend, reach and kneel throughout the workday.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be able to drive a company vehicle.
  • Must be able and willing to work/travel to various Company locations and to the field as needed in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather and will be required to participate in off-hour emergency response activities, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
  • Must be able to participate in the Companys emergency management processes and storm plans as required.
