Position Title: Assistant Scientist
Work Location: West Point, PA
Assignment Duration: 12 Months
Work Arrangement: In-person, on-site role with an expectation of approximately 80% in-lab work
Position Summary: 100% lab-based role

Key Responsibilities:
- Possesses a foundational understanding of biochemical assay workflows, including tissue homogenization techniques
- Highly detail-oriented and demonstrates the ability to quickly learn and execute new protocols
- Maintains accurate and precise records using electronic lab notebooks (e.g., Signals) and adapts readily to evolving experimental needs
- Follows established biosafety protocols and decontamination procedures for shared lab equipment
- Ability and willingness to work with BSL-2 derived human or rodent material
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment and ensures shared equipment is properly maintained and repaired as needed
- Adheres strictly to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards, ensuring accurate documentation, traceability, and preservation of sample integrity
- Proficient in Microsoft Office for data handling and team communication
- Collaborates effectively with scientists to meet experimental timelines and assay requirements
- Performing tissue homogenization using manual (e.g., cryopulverization, Dounce) and mechanical (e.g., Qiagen TissueLyser, Diagenode Bioruptor, sonication) methods
- Capable of accurately labeling and processing large volumes of BSL-2 level samples
- Demonstrates precision in manual pipetting and transferring of homogenates/biofluids, with experience or willingness to work with human and rodent-derived materials
- Familiar with or able to quickly learn BCA protein assays, including the Pierce Dilution-Free Rapid Gold BCA method
- Uses instruments such as the Tecan Spark for data capture and GraphPad Prism for analysis
- Prepares samples for downstream analysis and communicates effectively to meet program deliverables
- Experienced with or has the aptitude to learn operation of lab equipment such as homogenizers, sonicators, ultracentrifuges, and the Tecan Spark
Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree/ Master's Degree in life science related fields with 1-2 years of lab experience in academic or industry (preferred)
- Skilled in tissue homogenization using manual (e.g., cryopulverization, Dounce) and mechanical (e.g., Qiagen TissueLyser, Diagenode Bioruptor, sonication) methods
- Familiar with detergent-based extraction techniques (e.g., RIPA, Triton X-100, Sarkosyl, guanidine hydrochloride)
- Capable of accurately labeling and processing large volumes of BSL-2 level samples
- Demonstrates precision in manual pipetting and transferring of homogenates/biofluids, with experience or willingness to work with human and rodent-derived materials
- Familiar with or able to quickly learn BCA protein assays, including the Pierce Dilution-Free Rapid Gold BCA method
