The Association of American Medical Colleges is seeking a fellow who will focus on assisting with work across research and development teams. Conducts literature reviews and prepares and completes summary reports and presentations. Assists in data clean-up, quality control steps, and process, and statistical analyses to support research and development. Specific areas of research related to residency selection may include, but are not limited to: evaluating job markets, understanding the role of geography in the market, studying how signaling mechanisms influence applicant behavior and affect market efficiency, and designing and evaluating solutions related to algorithmic decision-making.

Responsibilities:

Supports Research :

  • Conduct literature reviews for medical education, assessment, measurement, organizational psychology, and microeconomics-related topics.
  • Assist in data up and quality control processes.
  • Contribute to analysis plans, conduct advanced statistical analyses, provide and interpret detailed output files, tables, and figures, and identify key takeaways to support research questions.
  • Assemble and prepare reports and presentations to describe findings.

Support Development:

  • Draft resources for medical schools (e.g., virtual interview guides, decision aid training)
  • Compile materials for assessment-related products
  • Coordinate with SMEs for focus groups
  • Assist with interviews as a note-taker and interviewer

Work with Data:

  • Programs surveys using online survey tools.
  • Prepares data for analysis
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to answer research questions
  • Support ongoing validation and evaluation projects by organizing datasets and maintaining documentation
  • Write reports and present results to the Director leadership, describing progress toward goals
  • Work with sensitive data, following AAMC protocols for confidentiality and data security

Prepares Summary Reports and Presentations:

  • Write reports and prepare materials
  • Prepare research summaries, charts, tables, and data visualizations, and PowerPoint slide decks
  • Prepare documentation for internal and external meetings

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Labor Economics)
  • Minimum related work experience of 1 to 2 years of work experience
  • Time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple, critical tasks while maintaining a high level of service and attention to detail, and adhering to a strict schedule.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to systematically identify and correct errors during QC and review processes.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills are necessary to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including AAMC staff.
  • Demonstrates maturity, tact, and sound judgment in dealing with AAMC staff.
  • Able to work in a consensus-based decision-making environment.
  • Strictly observes AAMC policies regarding confidentiality of information and personally identifiable information.
  • Advanced skills in the full suite of Microsoft Office products/Windows.
  • Familiarity with organizing and accessing data in structured formats, such as spreadsheets or databases.
  • Advanced understanding of research methods and statistics.
  • Beginner to intermediate skill with statistical software, such as SPSS, SAS, Python, or R

** This is a part-time position requiring 25 hours of work per week. Fellows can be paid at an hourly rate up to $29.50 per hour **

If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
