Job Summary

The UC Davis Eye Center is an academic/clinical department consisting of approximately 26 clinical and research faculty. 8 optometrists, 18 residents and clinical fellows, 24 volunteer clinical faculty and 155 academic and staff personnel, with an annual budget of $22 million. The Department's goals and objectives are to achieve excellence in patient care. teaching, research and public service. Patient care must receive the highest priority with the best possible service in all areas of Ophthalmologic care. In addition, the teaching of residents, medical students and postgraduate continuing medical education physicians, must be facilitated. PhDs and MDs are joined in mutual research efforts to seek new knowledge in the treatment and prevention of blinding eye disease. Alt of this is accomplished in the best working environment for all employees.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant by IJCAHPO required
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience/training
  • Previous experience in like field
  • PERIMETRY Has knowledge of eye anatomy and physiology. Has knowledge of pathology and corresponding visual field defects. Utilizes technical skill(s) to perform quality perimetry, using automated and Kinetic. Judgement to discern between artifact and visual field defects. Determines and records patient's reliability.
  • IMAGING Has knowledge of eye anatomy and pathology. Has basic knowledge of photography and OCT fundamentals. Ability to perform quality fundus, stereo disc and external photography using current departmental equipment. Ability to perform Ocular Coherence Tomography with Cirrus, Optos, Anterior Segment OCT and biometry.
  • PATIENT WORK-UP Skill and knowledge to acquire complete and concise patient history. Performs accuracy visual function including acuity, lensometry, color vision, color comparison, stereo acuity, tonometry, Amsler grid, BAT, PAM, EOM, CVF, pupil testing, and usage of Ophthalmic drops. PRE-OP/SURGERY Organizational skills required to prepare paperwork for pre-op. Communicate pre-op processes to the patient clearly and concisely.
  • MINOR ROOM ~ IN OFFICE PROCEDURES Ability to set up sterile injection, set up sterile minor room procedures and assist with minor in office procedures.
  • TECHNICAL PROCEDURES Perimetry Has knowledge of eye anatomy and physiology. Has knowledge of pathology and corresponding visual field defects. Utilizes the technical skill to perform quality perimetry, using the automated and manual instruments. Judgement to discern between artifact and visual field defects. Determines and records patient's reliability. IMAGING Has knowledge of eye anatomy and pathology. Has basic knowledge of photography. Has ability to perform quality fundus. stereo disc and external photography using current departmental equipment. Ability to perform Ocular Coherence Tomography with Cirrus, Stratus, and Anterior Segment OCT. Angiography skills desired.
  • PATIENT WORK-UP Skill and knowledge to acquire complete and concise patient history. Performs with skill an accuracy visual function including, lensometry, color vision, color comparison, stereo acuity tonometry, and Amsler grid. Determines and obtains a refraction when indicated. PRE-OPISURGERY SCHEDULING Organizational skills required to prepare paperwork for pre-op. Communicate pre-op process to the patient clearly and concisely.
  • COMPUTER SYSTEM OPERATIONS Understanding and operation of computer systems and applications necessary to perform assigned duties. Maintain knowledge of computer system changes/update, including required training. Must provide accuracy of data entered into computer systems, following set protocols. Follow University and departmental procedures to report and resolve system problems. Uses an Electronic Medical Record.
  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Expected to use independent judgment and problem-solving skills with regards to the following: patient now issues, overbooked clinics, equipment problems, or difficult patient issues that need to be addressed. Maintain and conduct oneself in a professional manner. Maintains a professional working relationship with staff and patients. Uses good communication skills oral and written. Readily assists co-workers. Must be flexible to cover other areas on short notice.
  • CONFIDENTIALITY Keeps confidential, any information regarding a patient's medical history: mental, physical, or treatment without express authorization of the patient or the patient's legal representative.
  • PRACTICE STANDARDS Follows UCDMC ambulatory Clinics Practice Standards as applicable to job duties.
  • DRESS CODE Complies with department dress code.
