About the role

We are looking for an Engineer - Mechanical to join our California Operations team in Wilmington, California. This role is to support the delivery of business objectives through the application of defect elimination, root cause analysis, project management, and technical support of on-site maintenance execution, operations and project teams.

This role is an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to make significant contributions to the management of critical assets in order to meet production requirements at Rio Tinto, Wilmington, CA. Contributions include but are not limited to:

  • Engineering and troubleshooting support of maintenance execution and operations teams
  • Identification, ownership and implementation of initiatives to deliver improvements in safety, asset performance, and cost
  • Capital project validation and delivery support
  • Initiation and facilitation of root cause analysis to mitigate acute and chronic asset failures
  • Reconciliation of production loss accounting data

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical or another relevant related technical field
  • 3+ years' experience in engineering maintenance roles
  • An ability to work cooperatively in a small team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptation
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering continuous improvement initiatives and projects
  • Experience in Defect Elimination processes and Root Cause Analysis

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience working in an industrial fixed plant environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SAP or equivalent CMMS
  • Lean Six Sigma methodology experience or Black Belt Certification
