SEVIS Manager and International Student Advisor - Office of Global Services

Requirements

The Office of Global Services (OGS) serves as a resource for schools, faculty, and administrators engaged globally and for international students and scholars here on campus. Our mission is to serve and support the Georgetown community in engaging a more open and connected world.

The SEVIS Manager and International Student Advisor supports OGS in managing data, fulfilling SEVIS compliance duties, advising incoming students, processing initial immigration documents, advising continuing students and alumni, and processing immigration requests.

The position has three major roles:
  • SEVIS Compliance and Data Management.
  • Student Advising - primarily STEM OPT.
  • Incoming student document issuance and advising.


Work Interactions

The SM/ISA reports directly to the Associate Director for International Student Services and works closely with the Assistant Director, International Student Services, who is responsible for managing the day-to-day and annual cycle of compliance functions and for heading the issuance of Form I-20/DS-2019 documents for over 1,000 initial entry, change of level and transfer students. The SM/ISA serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) serving F-1 students and an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) serving J-1 students. The SM/ISA works closely with other IS Advisors at all Georgetown campuses to alert them to sensitive data changes for further investigation and action. The SM/ISA works with University Information Services (UIS) and IT Systems Administrator to support software updates and maintenance. The SM/ISA serves as one of the primary advisors for STEM OPT students.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree and 2 years of significant working knowledge of F immigration regulations
  • 2 years of database and data management experience, and 2 years of experience in higher education or related field
  • Experience that demonstrates sensitivity to and acceptance of personal and cultural differences in people, and the ability to relate well to students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds
  • Attention to detail is essential for this position
  • Finally, the SM/ISA must have the ability to express him/herself clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), Student Information Systems (e.g. Ellucian Banner), and Immigration Management Software (e.g. Ellucian ISSM)
  • Must have U.S. citizenship or permanent residence to comply with the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security ARO/DSO requirements
  • Must have excellent computer skills and a working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel
  • Must pay close attention to detail and possess the organizational skills to track and implement varied bodies of knowledge and functions


Preferred Requirements and Qualifications
  • Other highly desirable qualifications for the position include an advanced degree, as it allows for greater levels of experience, credibility, and promotability; an academic specialization with an international focus such as cross-cultural communications
  • Current DSO or ARO designation is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of J immigration regulations
  • Proficiency in one or more foreign languages; study, employment, or residence in another country or extensive travel outside the United States
  • Previous employment in an educational institution or an agency dealing with international educational exchange

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$44,022.00 - $73,406.80

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
