Position Summary
  • The Director of Regional Warehouse Operations is responsible for overall operational performance of all materials & supplies storerooms across the region (Duke Energy Progress), including meeting Business Unit expected service and quality standards, safety and environmental compliance, and storm response related to material logistics and supply.

  • This role will ensure that employees operate in a safe manner, have the necessary training and tools to recognize and mitigate safety hazards, and are empowered to stop work when there is a safety concern. This position is high visibility and high impact and expected to drive a competitive advantage for Supply Chain and Duke Energy.

  • The Director of Regional Warehouse Operations will set direction for the development and growth of employees, create a productive and welcoming work environment and advance the Company's leadership imperatives. This position will oversee a team of 50-150 employees, including represented and non-represented Union workers, supervisors, mangers and contractors.

  • This role is expected to play a key role in supporting operational emergencies and storms in the region, and collaborate with peers to support storm restoration in other regions when resources are shared. These emergencies can be weather related, unscheduled generation or transmission outages or emergencies triggered by security concerns. The leader over DEP warehouse operations is expected to have a deep understanding of storm roles, processes and procedures.

  • This position ensures that the proper processes are implemented to drive efficiencies, quality and reliable service to Business Unit partners and customers. The Director of regional warehouse operations is responsible for managing the material throughput, storage and logistics worth between $500 and $800 Million in value with a volume of transactions in the hundredths of thousands per year. This role will ensure proper controls exist to protect the assets and materials of the company, and all rules related to environmental compliance are followed.

  • The Director of Regional Warehouse Operations will work closely with transformation, strategy, technology and continuous improvement teams to identify and implement better processes, systems and service level agreements.

  • This position defines and tracks performance metrics and promotes alignment with broader business plans and policies in Supply Chain and Duke Energy. The leader over this role works closely with his/her management team to oversee the financial and headcount budget for the region, track and explain variances to budget and make sure that all expenses and costs are charged to the right accounting.

  • The leader for this function will work closely with regional Business Unit operations peers in Sourcing, Power Grid Operations, RRE, Telecom and corporate functions, as well as inventory, planning and analytics departments, to understand work plans, operational priorities, capital & customer growth, and expected number of crews, to anticipate and secure warehouse space, trucking capacity, material handling resources and equipment like fleet services.

  • This role has responsibility for advancing technology adoption and leveraging systems & processes to automate transactions, track movement of material and create on-demand reporting capabilities.

  • This position is responsible for communicating and enforcing all rules and regulations applicable to material receipts, storage, transfers, issues, returns, disposition and other day-to-day warehousing transactions. The Regional Director of Warehousing Operations will track and enforce compliance with corporate EH&S, Supply Chain Safety Council, Duke Energy Safety Handbook and other Operational Excellence guidelines.

Transformational strategy: Identify and implement transformational change based on expected operational, financial and customer impacts.

Performance management: Design and communicate a comprehensive performance plan that focuses on the most important aspects of warehousing operations, including safety, costs, quality and reliability.

  • Set and monitor performance trends relative to established benchmarks

  • Work with communications team to ensure performance indicators are documented, shared, and discussed throughout the year

  • Work with analytics and other technical teams to evaluate , validate and improve performance indicators

  • Ensure alignment between performance indicators and Duke's strategic priorities

Work with Supply Chain and Business Unit peers to identify and execute key priorities in support of Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Customer Solutions business plans.

  • Assess warehousing capabilities relative to business demand (capacity, quality etc.)

  • Communicate standards for service levels offered and terms/conditions

  • Partner with the right planning groups to ensure materials management services are ready

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 7 years of related work experience

  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s) AND 7 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 11 year(s) related work experience

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's OR Master's Degree in Supply Chain, Business Management, Accounting, Operations, Logistics, or similar field of study

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • 3 or more years of experience leading large organizations (100+ field personnel)) and driving business change by influencing employees, peers and superiors, as well as developing employees.

  • 3 or more years of experience directing operations for large warehouses and operation centers

  • 3 or more years of experience working in transmission, distribution, fossil hydro or renewables operations

  • 3 or more years of experience with reporting financial and operational metrics

  • 5 or more years of warehousing, inventory management, field operations, operations systems or equivalent work experience

  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience in warehousing, field operations, inventory management or supply chain functions

  • Experience with implementing optimization models for logistics and warehousing across a large geographic footprint

  • Demonstrated experience with executing material management or warehousing transactions, overseeing safety compliance and interfacing with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.

  • Strong project management and communication skills

  • Ability to think strategically and understand short-term and long-term impact of business decisions

  • Proven history of developing relationships with internal and external business partners, business leadership and corporate functions like accounting, finance, rates, audit, IT etc.

  • Strong background in process design, system implementation

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and set direction under conflicting strategic and tactical priorities.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
  • Travel 40% within North Carolina and South Carolina
  • The selected candidate can sit anywhere within the Carolina's East service territory
