Overview
St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students each year. Job Responsibilities
90% of time
* Responsible for the maintenance, operation and installation of all heating, cooling, refrigerating and ventilating equipment on campus.
* Responsible for the maintenance, operation and installation of the pneumatic and DDC building automation control systems.
* Responsible for the maintenance, operation and installation of kitchen equipment.
* Inspects work performed by outside contractors for adherence to plans & specifications as well as all federal, state and local codes.
* Researches methods and materials required to complete assigned tasks.
* Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
* Planning of assigned projects.
10% of time
* Assist other skill trades in daily activities and renovation projects.
<1% of time
* During times of unusually high workloads in other Facilities Services groups, duties may include assisting grounds, moving/set-up or housekeeping.
Education / Experience
Associates Degree or two years of trade school training or equivalent experience plus a minimum of four years' experience as an HVAC Technician. Pesticide license for cooling tower water treatment & EPA certification in refrigeration handling are preferred. Must have valid NYS driver's license.
Competencies / Skills
* Knowledge of construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools, equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control and safety.
* Knowledge and skills in operations of PTAC, Heat Pump, Air Handling Units, Low Pressure Steam and Heating Hot Water Boilers, Closed Loop Systems and Treatment, a variety of Refrigeration equipment, DDC Control Systems, Chiller operation, Pneumatics, and ventilation exhaust systems.
* Knowledgeable in all applicable codes, standards and regulations.
* Conceptualize and develop bill of materials for assigned projects.
* Ability to draw appropriate sketches to communicate details to other skilled trades
* Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material take-offs and cost estimates.
* Safely operate and maintain all hand and power tools required to accomplish assignments.
* Ability to effectively organize work to effectively perform job function.
Supervision of Employees
Supervision of unskilled workers may be required
Work Environment
* Normal sitting, bending, standing, lifting and walking throughout the course of the day. Occasional heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. is required. Must be able to climb and work on ladders for extended periods.
* Frequent inside and outdoor in all types of weather conditions; possible exposure to hazardous materials and severe weather conditions.
* Exposed to normal working hazards associated with mechanical and electrical room environments. Atmosphere can be noisy in certain work areas
Equipment to be Used
* All types of hand & power tools, meters and testing equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks.
* MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
* Fax, Printer, Copier, Telephone
* Two way radio
* All types of College vehicles and equipment including but not limited to fork trucks, platform trucks, boom lifts & ladders
Job Type Full-time
Work Hours
Weekly 7am to 3:30pm, which may include a weekend day. On Call coverage and additional hours as needed.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
* Normal sitting, standing, bending and walking throughout the day.
* Good eyesight
* Good mechanical ability.
* Occasional heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
* Must be able to carry and climb ladders.
* Must be comfortable working on a lift truck up to 70 ft. in the air.
* Must be comfortable on roofs, confined or small spaces.
* Must be able to handle stress when workload peaks and changing priorities.
* Must be willing to be on call on a rotating basis. Call-in's may also occur at any time and every reasonable effort must be made to respond. Overtime may occur on short notice, especially during emergencies, special projects and special college functions.
* Must be self-motivated and have the ability to perform duties minimum assistance and minimum supervision.
* Ability to think through clearly amid changing priorities and circumstances.
* Maintain professional attitude and demeanor in difficult situations.
* Ability to multitask in a very busy work environment.
* Exercise sound judgment.
* Must be able to get along in a positive way with all members of the campus community.
