The Role

The Senior Lead Engineer supports the Diplomatic Telecommunications Service Program Office (DTS-PO). S/he is a member of a small, customer-dedicated team responsible for implementing and operating global telecommunications networks. Responsibilities range from hands-on configuration of MPLS and SONET/SDH services to theoretical consideration of emerging technology as a solution. The Sr Lead Engineer reports to the Program Manager.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Serve in customer facing role:
  • Demonstrate professionalism and technical capabilities with customers
  • Provide technical presentations and/or discussion with customer engineering and operations staff
  • Apply experience in international telecommunications technologies: IP (VPLS & MPLS), DIA, LDIE, CVPN, transport/private line and customer premise equipment
  • Facilitate installation, configuration, test, activation/acceptance and maintenance of all telecommunications equipment within specific government facilities
  • Write and implement complex router configurations for IP (L2/L3) services
  • Contribute to project status meetings and updates
  • Produce Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation to coordinate work being done by others
  • Provide post sales capacity analysis and planning for customer premise equipment locations: ensure capacity is available for current and future requirements; recommend capacity augments as required
  • Serve as contact for internal groups during the provisioning/implementation phase of customer orders and work into internal groups on behalf of the program office
  • Maintain current capability in emerging technology space
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineering team for engineering and architecture design support of international networks
  • Maintain detailed network maps and equipment database for international customer network
  • Provide training to colleagues, interns and customers on IP (L2/L3) services (network and CPE)
  • Serve as member of the Public Sector International Team providing international guidance and escalation support; includes building and stewarding relationships with international carriers, as well as resolution of occasional international escalations for other customer program offices
  • Network Operations:
  • Provide hands-on Tier 3+ support for the NOC; engage and facilitate assistance of advanced technical teams when necessary
  • Understand complex circuit theory to assess problems and facilitate repair
  • Evaluate planned maintenance activities to determine potential impacts to customer capabilities
  • Evaluate faults and provide trend analysis
  • Participate in post incident analysis and process improvement
  • Work with vigilance to proactively identify network vulnerabilities; raise issues with the program team for resolution
  • Occasional travel and irregular hours
What We Look For in a Candidate
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
  • Ten or more years applicable IP operations / engineering experience; previous experience with government agencies is valued
  • Certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA, ANRS, Network+, Security+ are highly valued
  • Strong briefing ability
  • Proficiency with legacy Level3 systems: EON, Pipeline, SWIFT, DOKU, BPM, OMC
  • Working knowledge of software such as MS Office, Visio, MS Project, Access, PowerPoint, SFA
  • Proficiency with remote team tools: teleconference, video conference, shared online workspaces
  • US citizenship
  • US Government security clearance
Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$129,639 - $172,852 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$136,121 - $181,494 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$142,603 - $190,137 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
