Managing potential design changes to commissioned ships (i.e. Ship Alteration drawings) Developing documentation for class/ship modernization efforts
  • Making recommendations for service life extension
  • Providing technical direction in support of emergent problems (i.e. Liaison Action Requests (LARs)).

Specific technical areas include compressible (gas) and incompressible (water and hydraulic) fluid systems. Prior technical knowledge of these areas is required.

The person filling this position is responsible for providing leadership to approximately nine engineers that perform multiple complex tasks requiring engineering analysis for non-thermal fluid systems. • Managing and prioritizing work to meet ship availability schedules and project budgets
  • Approving technical work documents such as ShipAlt drawings, engineering calculations, LAR dispositions, Vendor Information Requests (VIRs), Vendor Requisitions (VREQs), Technical Manual Deficiency Reports (TMDRs), Manual Change Requests (MCRs) and other technical documents.
  • Interaction and close coordination with new construction and waterfront engineering organizations and various program offices.
  • Communicating various programmatic and technical issues to Navy customers and working closely with Naval Shipyards, Alteration Installation Teams (AITs), Submarine bases and other facilities

The successful candidate should have strong technical knowledge of fluids systems and associated components (e.g. flasks and accumulators) and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Design in the development of technical drawings.
