Modern Technology Solutions, INC. (MTSI) is seeking a Senior Accountant who will manage complex accounting tasks for the company and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. This role includes preparing financial statements, performing reconciliations, and supporting audits. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in government contracting, a strong understanding of federal acquisition regulations (FAR), and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records and reports.
  • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues.
  1. Reconciliation:
  • Perform account reconciliations, including bank statements, general ledger accounts, and sub-ledgers.
  • Ensure all accounts are reconciled accurately and timely.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies or issues.
  1. Compliance and Regulation:
  • Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, and other relevant government regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required financial reports to federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and reviews.
  1. Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
  • Support management in financial planning and decision-making processes.
  1. Cost Accounting:
  • Maintain and analyze cost accounting records and reports.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of costs to appropriate projects and contracts.
  • Monitor and report on cost variances and trends.
  1. Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function.
  • Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stay updated on industry standards and regulatory changes.
  1. Audit Support:
  • Provide support for internal and external audits.
  • Prepare audit schedules, documentation, and respond to auditor inquiries.
  • Ensure timely resolution of audit findings and recommendations.
  1. General Accounting:
  • Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries and adjustments.
  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Support other accounting tasks and projects as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Ciizen.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably within a government contracting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and government contracting regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Deltek, Costpoint).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
