HUMAN RESOURCE GENERALIST

DUNCAN, SC - DUNCAN PLANT

As a member of the Human Resources team, the HR Generalist will be responsible forperforming the administrative duties for the HR function in a Just In Time, lean manufacturing environment.

Incumbents in this classification are responsible for interviewing and training employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, assisting in policy and procedure development; and processing, verifying, and maintaining, and developing documentation relating to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.

The Role:

Typical duties will include, but not be limited to:



  • Explaining company personnel policies, benefits, and procedures to employees or job applicants
  • Recording data for each employee, including such information as addresses, weekly earnings, logistics, absences, counseling issues, and dates of and reasons for terminations
  • Processing and reviewing employment applications to evaluate qualifications or eligibility of applicants
  • Answering questions regarding examinations, eligibility, salaries, benefits, and other pertinent information
  • Examining employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions
  • Coaching employees on issues pertaining to conflict resolution and employee performance
  • Providing information to authorized persons and organizations, such as credit bureaus and finance companies, in compliance with Lear Duncan's confidentiality practices and HIPAA regulations.
  • Performing administrative functions such as printing out pay stubs, resetting passwords, checking discrepancies with time, handling filing status changes) using Kronos and People Soft databases, and Quest
  • Performing employee advocate functions such as responding to questions pertaining to benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance
  • Identifying legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are all in compliance
  • Recruiting, interviewing, testing, and selecting employees to fill vacant positions
  • Developing and/or maintaining descriptions for all new jobs, performing desk audits on workstations; and periodically reviewing and updating job descriptions as needed
  • Completing paperwork and reports as required or requested with due diligence
  • Assisting with developing and implementing cost saving ideas and strategies for Lear Duncan
  • Assisting with new policy and procedure development for Lear Duncan
  • Planning and conducting new employee orientation to foster positive attitudes toward company goals
  • Coordinating and conducting training for Lear employees and staff in regard to soft skills, drug awareness, safety, etc.
  • Coordinating and developing management training in regard to interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment
  • Providing recommendations to upper management in appropriate resolution of employee relation's issues
  • Reviewing and approving FMLA requests
  • Responding to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs
  • Creating structured interview questions for all classifications within Lear Duncan
  • Initiating and investigating regarding allegations of harassments, discrimination, and/or inappropriate conduct
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of the HR department in regard to employee disclosures and issues

Your Qualifications:



  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field and
  • Three (3) to five (5) years generalist experience preferred, OR Master's degree in Human Resource Management



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:



  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Knowledge of the operational characteristics, services, and activities of a comprehensive human resources program as needed to assist in setting and achieving departmental goals
  • Knowledge of adult learning practices and techniques to include visual aids, interactive exercises and activities, and theoretical application as needed to train


  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects


  • Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel management and administration to include supervision, training, performance evaluation, and other related organizational processes
  • Knowledge of labor law compliance issues and practices
  • Knowledge of the principles of safety compliance
  • Ability to establish and implement new policies and procedures
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions and project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of work records and other information
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports and routine business correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, and the general public
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established policies
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with employees at all levels and the general publicAbility to develop long-term plans and programs and evaluate work accomplishments; ability to apply and adapt practices and techniques to the special requirements of personnel management
