Established by the Tennessee General Assembly as a permanent commission, TCCY is the states centralized informational resource and advocacy agency for timely, fact-based information to aid policymaking and coordination of resources. Job Overview: This position manages Tennessee's legislatively mandated Resource Mapping Project, which tracks all public funding for services to children and families in Tennessee, and contributes to the agency's FUTURE Data Dashboard, a public-facing tool displaying key indicators of child well-being. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical, organizational, and data management skills, strong writing skills with the ability to interpret data into a meaningful narrative, as well as an interest in improving state systems for children and families. Key Responsibilities: Resource Mapping Project Management
- Oversee the annual data collection and reporting process for the Tennessee Resource Mapping Project, a statewide effort to account for all federal and state funding dedicated to children and youth.
- Prepare for each new cycle by reviewing prior-year files, updating documentation, and coordinating with Strategic Technology Solutions (STS) to ready the internal data collection platform.
- Manage outreach to and communication with over 20 state departments and divisions to request and receive funding data.
- Organize and facilitate kickoff and technical support meetings with agency contacts to explain guidelines and deadlines.
- Review submitted data for completeness, consistency, and compliance with reporting definitions.
- Provide follow-up and technical assistance as needed to resolve errors or omissions.
- Analyze data using Excel and other tools, including pivot tables and categorization by funding source (federal, state, local), program area (e.g., education, health), population served (age groups), and service outcomes.
- Draft content for the Resource Mapping Report, including executive summaries, analysis sections, charts, tables, and appendices.
FUTURE Data Dashboard Support
- Assist with updating and maintaining TCCYs FUTURE Data Dashboard, which highlights key indicators of child and youth well-being using data from federal and state sources (CDC, Census Bureau, TN Department of Health, Department of Education, etc.).
- Monitor release schedules for key datasets and work with internal staff to retrieve and clean new data.
- Follow established internal procedures to:
- Update tracking spreadsheets and documentation.
- Refresh interactive charts, graphs, and maps on the live dashboard.
- Ensure data displayed on the dashboard remains accurate, timely, and well-documented for external users.
- Contribute to quality assurance and user experience improvements by identifying data issues, formatting inconsistencies, or usability concerns.
- Collaborate with policy staff to interpret trends and ensure data is appropriately framed for public and policymaker use.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Public Policy, Data Science, Public Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, or related field.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and data cleaning.
- Familiarity with data visualization platforms (Infogram, Flourish, Tableau, ArcGIS, or Power BI).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
