LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: TENNESSEE WILDLIFE RESOURCES AGENCY, FEDERAL AID & REAL ESTATE DIVISION, DAVIDSON COUNTY
This is an on-site position. Qualifications Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and two years of GIS experience in application development or spatial report generation. Substitutions:
- GIS, IT, CAD, or mapping experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis (up to four years).
- Graduate coursework in geography may substitute for one year of experience.
- Attainment of GIS Professional Certification also qualifies.
Necessary Special Qualifications: None Examination Method: Education and Experience, 100% Overview Under general supervision, the GIS Analyst - Advanced provides high-level technical and analytical support in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This role may also serve in a lead or supervisory capacity, overseeing GIS analysts and project execution. Responsibilities include advanced spatial analysis, application development, and integration of GIS within complex agency systems. This role is distinguished by its authority to lead GIS initiatives, mentor staff, and support agency-wide decision-making through advanced geospatial solutions and infrastructure planning. This class differs from Geographic Information Systems Manager in that incumbents of the latter manage the operation of and supervise employees in a GIS unit. Responsibilities
- Advanced Spatial Analysis & GIS Solutions - Leads complex spatial analysis projects, designs GIS applications, and defines spatial data models based on agency objectives.
- Project & Staff Leadership - Supervises GIS staff or leads technical projects, assigns work based on resources and expertise, and evaluates performance.
- System Design & Development - Programs advanced GIS tools, integrates GIS with enterprise systems, and configures spatial data processing workflows.
- Training & Technical Support - Develops training programs and user materials, supports agency staff, and ensures GIS knowledge transfer.
- Evaluation & Quality Assurance - Conducts independent QA reviews of GIS outputs, ensures system compatibility, and monitors application performance.
- Strategic Planning & Consultation - Advises agencies on GIS adoption, system improvements, and resource planning based on industry trends and operational needs.
- Documentation & Compliance - Maintains official project documentation, system specifications, and spatial data archives to support audit-readiness and continuity.
