Overview
The successful candidate will provide technical direction to nuclear engineers, radiological control technicians, and nuclear trades, as well as perform oversight during the planning and execution of nuclear work. Radiological Engineers are the technical authority responsible to ensure requirements are met to keep personnel radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable and to protect the environment. Duties will include:
Developing and reviewing procedures and methods to ensure appropriate radiological controls are directed
- Developing radiation exposure estimates and shielding goals, maintaining the radiological status of ships or facilities, and preparing radiological control agreements
- Providing deck-plate support and oversight of radiological work in the shipyard and at Naval Submarine Base New London
- Investigating radiological problems to prevent or mitigate re-occurrence
- Leading projects for radiological innovation and process improvement
- Coordinating with other naval nuclear program shipyards and labs to maintain and improve corporate radiological controls procedures
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
- 0-5 years of related experience
- Experience in Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) Engineering, Test, Quality, New Construction and/or Overhaul and Repair work
Preferred:
- Current NAVSEA 389-0288 Article 109 Qualification
- Previous experience in Radiological Controls
- Previous experience as an Auditor, Problem Resolution Lead, Quality Engineer, Quality Advocate, Green/Black Belt, or other quality professional
- Prior experience interfacing with engineering, operations, program management and Customer representatives (Navy personnel, SUPSHIP, KAPL, etc.)
Skills
- Knowledge of NAVSEA 389-0288
- Strong technical writing, oral communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in use of MSOffice products
- The candidate will be required to qualify as a Radiation worker in accordance with NAVSEA 389-0288 and will be required to obtain a DOD Secret Level (or higher) Security Clearance
- Field and office work is required
