Overview

To provide strategy and leadership to the 24/7 global physical security and investigations teams. Identify solutions that support and align with Security's strategic goals and drive high-level corporate decisions that help protect employees/members. Oversee security programs, which includes site selection, facilities physical security design and standardization, identifying, selecting, and maintaining electronic security systems and equipment, and security force functions. Support executive management in the development and execution of strategic plans and as subject matter expert regarding section functions, systems, policies and procedures. Direct report to SVP Security. Act as SVP in the incumbent's absence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee physical security division strategy, establish priorities, and set goals; evaluate and implement standards, programs, and services to ensure alignment with department/organizational objectives and applicable NFCU instructions or regulations
  • Direct and oversee the Physical Security Site operations team responsible for the development of short and long range physical security plans to ensure the safety of the NFCU campuses and branches
  • Direct and oversee Global Security team responsible for alarm responses, conducting abusive member, fraud ring, employee investigations, and coordination with law enforcement
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance and repair of security and safety systems worldwide
  • Partner with department executives, leadership, and other key business unit leaders to develop the long-term strategic direction and roadmap; contribute to a culture of collaboration by actively working across business lines, communicating knowledge and business processes to other business units
  • Advise Branch Operations on the site selection and design/construction of branch locations to ensure consistency with industry best practices and NFCU security standards; responsible for approving all physical security decisions related to these locations
  • Direct the process for enterprise insurance and employee background checks
  • Lead efforts to identify and develop innovative, creative, and strategic initiatives for systems/process improvements to sustain and improve operations; provide forward thinking technical expertise in current and emerging technologies, trends, and practices
  • Oversee training programs for staff to promote security awareness and ensure the effective application of security procedures
  • Oversee post-project analyses to measure the effectiveness of new physical security and safety programs
  • Oversee vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, monitor vendor performance, ensure adherence to service level agreements, and identify additional product strategies and opportunities
  • Lead change management efforts, cross-functional initiatives and department/organization projects
  • Oversee armored car cash delivery service for all branch offices and remote ATMs
  • Oversee the requirements and contractual arrangements for onsite contract security guards at branches
  • Oversee and direct operations to ensure targets, service level agreements and corporate objectives are met
  • Monitor and analyze changes to applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations; develop action plans for implementation/dissemination, and coordinate changes with affected branches/divisions
  • Serve as liaison with Branch Operations, ISD, and third-party vendors in support of the physical security strategy.
  • Serve as strategic advisor to senior management
  • Perform supervisory and managerial responsibilities:
    • Set direction to ensure goals and objectives align with corporate, division and regional strategy
    • Select management and other key personnel; oversee talent development and succession planning
    • Collaborate with executive colleagues to develop and execute corporate initiatives and strategy
    • Oversee the preparation and execution of organization's Annual Financial Plan and budget
    • Manage merit pay in accordance with specified objectives and guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience leading and managing a multi-functional and multi-location security operation, preferably in a large financial institution
  • Expert knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of financial industry trends, products and services
  • Advanced knowledge of construction industry practices (particularly electrical elements), including understanding of and ability to interpret building codes, regulations, specifications, procedures, and policies
  • Expert knowledge of the design, installation and operation of security systems and related equipment
  • Extensive experience collaborating across organizational boundaries and building partnerships across functions
  • Extensive experience managing cross-functional, multi-dimensional teams and projects of the highest complexity which have business risk and impact
  • Ability to communicate highly complex technical concepts to non-technical and executives
  • Significant experience influencing business decisions at the senior leadership level
  • Extensive experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors diplomatically & tactfully
  • Advanced knowledge of change management principles and practices
  • Law enforcement background
  • Advanced knowledge of NFCU's functions, philosophy, operations and organizational objectives
  • Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal's functions, philosophy, operations and organizational objectives
  • Expert skill developing and implementing programs in a leadership role

  • Master's degree in Security Management, Engineering, or related field, or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
