Position Purpose
This role supports a positive and productive work environment by partnering with hiring managers on position development and management, coordinating with Labor Relations and managers on employee investigations, and executing system actions for new hires, transfers, rate changes, terminations, payments, and other related tasks. Key responsibilities include developing and managing positions through the Dartmouth systems, submitting and tracking payroll actions, responding to reporting and data requests, and completing special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Five-plus years of progressive HR experience, with some exposure to employee relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather information and present findings of investigations in a clear written report.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain findings clearly.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Experience in working with Excel spreadsheets and presentation software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • High degree of attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous exposure to employee relations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems).

Key Accountabilities


Description
Position Management

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to develop and review position descriptions.
  • Manage position-related actions within the Dartmouth Online Review and Recruit system, ensuring accuracy and compliance with institutional guidelines.
  • Facilitate smooth onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Create letters including for new hires, promotions, incentive payments.
  • Partner with specific department leaders to assess current and future staffing needs.
  • Provide back-up support to other HR colleagues in recruiting during times of high volume.
  • Monitor the status of temporary employees for specific departments to ensure active assignment tracking.

Description
Employee Relations & Policy Guidance

  • Guide supervisors and staff on workplace expectations, HR policies, and best practices. Follow up on workplace matters involving Title VII and IX, accommodations, and short-term disability to ensure timely updates and coordination of employee work status.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director, Campus Services Human Resources (CS HR), address employee relations issues by providing guidance and support to employees and supervisors, ensuring a fair and consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Conduct preliminary fact-finding for employee concerns, document findings, and recommend solutions to resolve workplace conflicts. Participate in investigations related to employee complaints, misconduct, or policy violations, collaborating with Labor Relations, HR leadership, and legal counsel as needed.
  • Participate with Assistant Director, CS HR, in creating counseling sessions and composing formal disciplinary documents. Collaborate with department managers to address routine and complex employee relations issues. Acts independently in disciplinary matters as requested.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to support employee performance, engagement, and retention.

Description
People Operations

  • Under the Assistant Manager, CS HR's supervision, submit requests through Onbase for Campus Services position changes, including new hires, rehires, promotions, transfers, rate changes, hiatuses, stipends, security access, supplemental payments, special assignments, and payments. Liaise with Finance Center and Payroll on specific requests or troubleshooting.
  • Research payroll issues and communicate follow-up to employees.
  • Track rate changes including upgrade progressions for SEIU positions.
  • Administer recurring CS HR projects, including performance evaluations, service awards, and footwear stipend payments.

  • Collect HR data for the Director of HR, Learning & Development, Campus Services, to support identifying trends and actionable insights related to employee turnover, engagement, performance, and other workforce metrics.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment through effective communication and collaboration with hiring managers, leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as a resource for HR best practices, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the division.
  • Assistance for Communications team, and Culture and Employee Belonging (CEB) team regarding maintaining up-to-date employee lists; various other reports including new hires/terminations; milestones; tech needs report for IT, 100-day report; special events employee lists. Respond to different data and information requests from CSV departments and to special requests.
