Shipyard Qualified Tradesman Supervisor

Position Summary :

As Shipyard Qualified Tradesman Supervisor, you will lead a group of qualified shipyard tradesman to execute production work in support of CNO submarine availabilities in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as assigned based on contract awards.

We are currently seeking supervisors with experience in the following trades:


  • Electrician
  • Electronics Mechanic
  • Fire Watch
  • Machinist
  • Marine Machinery Mechanic
  • Painter/Sandblaster
  • Pipefitter
  • Sheet Metal Worker
  • Shipfitter
  • Shipwright
  • Welder


This will support public shipyard work onboard submarines.

Clearance Requirement:


  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision to shipyard qualified tradesman
  • Direct activities of assigned tradesman to complete tasks in a timely manner and in accordance with safety, quality company and regulatory directives
  • Communicates regularly with the Prime contractor, keeping them updated on the execution of the contract award.
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping records, injury reports, employee conduct issues, worksite surveillance reports, and other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 10 or more years of Public Shipyard or equivalent military training and/or experience
  • At least 6+ years of Naval Shipyard supervisory experience
  • Journeyman qualifications or equivalent military training and/or experience in his/her trade at the WG-10 level
  • Must have trades experience in Public Shipyards working on US Navy Ships
  • Understanding of local OSHA safety requirements and provide oversite of proper and safe work practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others and follow Prime Contractor and LCE administrative guidelines
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Familiarity with local shipyard instructions and procedures as they apply to his/her trade
  • Prefer experience in anyone of the following shops: 11, 17, 26, 31, 38, 51, 56, 64, 71, 72 or 90/99
  • Must have experience with tools of his/her trade
  • Ability to read and interpret Tech Manuals
  • Ability to read drawings, blueprints and design sketches
  • Ability to read and follow technical work documents (Task Group Instructions written in AIM)


Physical Demands and Expectations:

  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, standing and prolonged sitting
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
