Metra is one of the nation's largest and most complex commuter rail systems, connecting six counties in Northeastern Illinois with safe, reliable, and efficient service. The Mechanical Department plays a critical role in achieving Metra's mission by managing the inspection, repair, and maintenance of 1,180 rail vehicles to ensure compliance with the highest safety and performance standards. The Chief Mechanical Officer (CMO) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Mechanical Department. This includes managing over 30 field service, inspection, and maintenance facilities and guiding a workforce responsible for a fleet of over 1,200 vehicles including locomotives, passenger coaches, maintenance-of-way equipment, and electric multiple units (Highliners). The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range.
