Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin. BETTER TOGETHER The Medical Coding Supervisor oversees the operations and personnel within the Medical Coding department. This role involves reviewing electronic encounter documentation to verify that provider-assigned codes are accurate, adhere to established coding protocols, and comply with applicable guidelines. The supervisor also supports practitioners and their staff by offering coding education and guidance on documentation standards and may participate in research projects related to medical coding. This position is responsible for auditing insurance claims to identify potential coding errors and investigating coding regulations to address claim denials. The Medical Coding Supervisor manages the coding team by handling recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff; evaluating employee performance; recommending further training as needed; and ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet workflow demands, including during staff absences. Additional responsibilities include developing departmental policies and procedures, leading staff meetings to communicate updates and resolve issues, handling customer inquiries or complaints, and representing the department in relevant organizational meetings. The position reports to the Revenue Cycle Manager and functions with general supervision.
