Requirements
* At least 18 years of age
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
* Must possess active Direct Endorsement (DE) authority form the U.S., Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for FHA loan underwriting, as well as a current Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) credential issued by the U.S. Department of veterans Affairs (VA) for reviewing and approving VA loan appraisals to ensure qualification to make credit decisions and validate collateral under both FHA and VA loan programs in accordance with federal guidelines
* 5 years mortgage underwriting experience with 2 years in management capacity
* Proven ability to motivate and lead an underwriting staff
* In-depth knowledge of mortgage regulations and compliance standards
* Must be detail oriented, analytical, and organized
* Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities
* Must successfully pass background investigation according to company policy
* Must be able to get along with co-workers and work effectively in a team environment
Job Description
* Responsible for supervision, performance management, and training of all Mortgage Underwriters
* Work closely with loan officers, processors, closers, and other departments to ensure a smooth loan process
* Review and approve complex loan applications, resolve escalated issues, and provide guidance to underwriters.
* Assist in developing and updating underwriting policies and procedures to reflect industry s best practices and regulatory changes
* Analyze performance metrics and trends continually looking for and implementing areas of improvement
* Approve or deny mortgage loans, following mortgage standards, according to VA, FHA, FNMA, FHLMC, Investor, QC and Bank guidelines
* Review and evaluate information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet establishment and government standards
* Specify investor and institution guidelines and basis for declining application; must be consistent with all decisions
* Evaluate acceptability of loans to investors in the secondary market
* Review credit reports and give loan officers and loan processors guidance on how to make the loan work
* Ensure the needs of the customer are met
* Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality
* Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:
* Must be able to remain in a sitting stationary position for extended periods of time
* Constantly operate a computer and other office machinery
* Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
