The Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK) is seeking a full-time, on-site Patient Services Specialist to join our team in our Wichita, KS offices. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM with no major holidays, no on-call and no weekends.

What does this position entail?

Under general supervision, is responsible for identifying uninsured patients scheduled for services, developing and delivering Good Faith Estimates to patients, insurance verifications, assistance applications and eligibility checks. Additionally, the position supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards, and US Oncology's Shared Values.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Ensures all uninsured patients are identified

  • Develop a Good Faith Estimate and provide it to the uninsured patients in accordance with current guidelines.

  • Confirms eligibility and verifies insurance benefits.

  • Counsel patients regarding financial obligations, billing practices, establishing payment arrangements and referring patients to the Patient Assistance Team as necessary.

  • Assist with assistance applications, billing inquiries and any other general insurance questions.

  • Collaborate with outside providers and companies to obtain assistance for CCK patients on all services.

  • Maintain an up-to-date database for services provided including but not limited to fee schedules.

  • Remain informed of newly released regulations and requirements from HHS, CMS and commercial payers and work to offer implementation ideas incorporating the same.

  • Coordinate with Business Office Director on solutions which may include workflow or software changes.

  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies, patients and team members.

  • Demonstrates an understanding for patient confidentiality to protect the patient and the clinic/corporation.

  • Demonstrates compliance with all policies and procedure including HIPAA privacy rules, and maintains confidentiality of patient and company information.

  • Attends required, applicable meetings.

  • Remains current on all compliance requirements.

  • Ensures all applicable policies and procedures of the company and Network are followed.

  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to create spreadsheets in Excel.

  • Ability to deal courteously with patients, co-workers and insurance personnel.

  • Ability to operate a telephone system and utilize appropriate telephone etiquette.

  • General knowledge of standard office equipment such as computers, fax machine, scanners.

  • General knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to hear sounds concisely.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Medical business office experience with insurance procedures and patient interaction preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of medical billing and collection practices.

  • Knowledge of insurance agency operation procedures and policies.

  • Knowledge of governmental, legal and regulatory provisions related to collection activities.

  • Knowledge of drugs and supplies utilized.

  • Knowledge of ICD-10 coding.
