Who is SSP?
Senior Aerospace SSP, specializes in designing, manufacturing, and qualifying complex ducting systems for aerospace applications. Since its humble roots in 1945, the campus has now expanded to include a 59,000 sq. ft high-volume production facility, in addition to its legacy 131,000 ft2 main buildings which combined, accommodate over 500 employees. Vertically integrated with its own foundry, fabrication shop, and ISO certified engineering lab, Senior Aerospace SSP acquired by Senior PLC in 1995 and has continued its expansion into new programs and technologies.
What does the job involve?
Summary: Purpose of the role: The Lean Coach is responsible for providing hands-on support and guidance to implement Toyota Production System (TPS) methodologies within our manufacturing environment. This role focuses on direct shop floor coaching, capability building, and leading improvement activities to enhance operational excellence across all aspects of production and support functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
- Facilitate and lead kaizen events and improvement projects aligned with TPS principles
- Provide direct coaching in fundamental TPS tools including standardized work.
- Train and mentor teams in problem-solving using Toyota Business Practices (TBP)
- Support daily management systems and help develop visual management boards
- Guide implementation of Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Safety, Standard Work, Material Pull Systems, Variation Reduction, SMED, and Daily Management
- Coach supervisors and team leaders in TPS leadership behaviors
- Facilitate value stream mapping and process improvement activities
- Support the implementation of pull systems in manufacturing
- Document and share best practices across teams
- Lead problem-solving activities
- Provide regular updates on improvement activities and results
- Support quality improvement initiatives aligned with requirements
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field, or a combination of experience and education.
Minimum 7 years of hands-on manufacturing experience in aerospace or precision manufacturing
Demonstrated expertise in Toyota Production System principles and tools
Direct experience implementing lean in complex manufacturing environments
Strong understanding of quality systems and regulatory requirements
Experience with manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, and assembly
Proven track record of leading successful improvement projects
Strong coaching and facilitation skills
Excellent problem-solving capabilities using TPS methodologies
Experience working with precision tolerances and quality requirements
Understanding of high-mix, low-volume production environments
Preferred Qualifications:
- Lean or Six Sigma certification
- Experience with aerospace supply chain dynamics
- Background in precision machining or assembly operations
Required Skills:
- Language: Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to read, comprehend, present, and write (in English) correspondence, work orders, policies, procedures, etc. Ability to prepare presentations and speak / present material to large groups of employees.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to solve problems involving many variables in various situations.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
