Role

This role combines technical leadership with individual contribution, providing global fire protection support to Eastman. Responsibilities include supervising, developing, and managing the Fire Protection group's workload, while ensuring high-quality design and coordination on multi-discipline projects. The team prepares comprehensive fire protection packages-including suppression, alarm, and procurement-for successful installation and construction.


The leader aligns group efforts with current and upcoming projects across Eastman, offering strategic input on departmental and divisional improvement initiatives. Additionally, this role plays a key part in building the engineering talent pipeline through active recruitment, hiring, and development of fire protection professionals.



Responsibilities:


Technical Leadership & Project Oversight
* Lead the Fire Protection Group to complete all design, specification, and multi-discipline coordination aspects for fire protection packages.
* Responsible for successful discipline project outcomes (cost, schedule, and quality conformance).
* Provide deliverable quality checking and oversight.
* Perform to defined project metrics.
* Support all design functions required to complete projects for successful construction.



Engineering Design & Analysis
* Evaluate and/or create fire protection calculations including hydraulic analysis, battery calculations, and voltage drop calculations.
* Perform the construction administration, including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, and review subcontractor shop drawings and calculations, field inspections, and testing of fire protection systems.
* Work with fire protection subcontractors on the design and installation of fire protection systems.



Collaboration & Communication
* Interface with Project Managers and division representatives at various manufacturing sites.
* Build and maintain effective relationships within Eastman manufacturing divisions and manufacturing sites and contractors.
* Coordinate with Factory Mutual to understand recommendations and provide insight and strategic advice to Eastman personnel.
* Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.



Process Improvement & Procurement Support
* Support the procurement process in fire protection equipment purchases.
* Participate in the development and improvement of procedures and information management.


Qualifications

* Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in fire protection engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university.
* 8 years or more experience in fire protection (completion of master's degree in fire protection engineering may be substituted for one year of experience).
* Experience with and understanding of NFPA codes and standards, International Building Code, International Fire Code, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, and Factory Mutual datasheets is required.
* Candidate should have extensive knowledge of appropriate design tools such as:
o Hydraulic fire protection calculation software (HASS, AutoSprink), CADD (2D and 3D), Excel, Word, and Power Point.
* Experience with the following tools is preferred:
o Laser scans, Bentley, AVEVA,
* Experience with special hazards and fire protection in an industrial setting is required.
* Working knowledge of various fire suppressions systems, including foam systems, is required.
* NICET certification, and Certified Fire Protection Specialist accreditation are strongly preferred.
* Professional Engineer OR Professional Fire Protection Engineer (P.E.) license is
preferred, or ability to obtain PE license in a relatively short amount of time.




Additional Requirements:
* Ability to lead design efforts on multiple assignments of varying complexity, while providing technical oversight to a team.
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills for implementation of cross-functional process improvements
* Ability to mentor and develop lesser experienced team members.
* Must work well in a team and be a self-starter, capable of understanding issues and solving problems with minimal guidance.
* The position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving challenging problems requiring adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, or criteria.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
