Position Summary

Candid is a nonprofit that provides the most comprehensive data and insights about the social sector. We get you the information you need to do good. Candid currently has an opportunity for a Vice President of Product Management.

As a member of the executive team, the VP of Product Management leads overall product vision, product strategy, and product development for Candid's industry leading SAAS products. This role provides organizational oversight, leadership and communication for the evergreen cycle of product ideation, discovery, design, rapid prototype, validation, build, and release. Given Candid's dual mandate as a nonprofit social enterprise, the successful VP will need to maintain a thoughtful balance between driving the revenue required for financial sustainability and fulfilling Candid's mission of making the social sector more efficient, effective, and equitable. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic, collaborative, and empathetic product leader to make a positive impact at scale through the use of data, technology, and AI.

The merger of Foundation Center and GuideStar that formed Candid not only brought together the most comprehensive source of data about the social sector but also unlocked the ability to provide a true 360 view across funders and nonprofits - with endless potential to remove barriers, streamline work, and reveal insights. Soon, Candid's best-in-class legacy products including Foundation Directory, GuideStar, and Foundation Maps will be fully integrated into a next generation platform. The VP Product Management will be charged with unleashing the potential of the new unified product to revolutionize the way funders and nonprofits learn about each other, connect, and achieve impact together.

The VP of Product Management will require strong collaboration both cross-functionally and with external partners. This role will work closely with the VP of Technology and the Chief Data Officer to develop and deliver Candid's products and services, as well as with the VP of Growth and the VP of Influence to ensure Candid's offerings are widely adopted.

Supervises: Senior Director, Product Management; Senior Director, User Experience; Director, Product Operations

Schedule: 35-hour work week, Monday through Friday

Compensation: $200,000-$300,000 (this range is for the NYC area and will be adjusted for other localities; additionally, factors like skills and experience will be considered).

Location: Remote. Executive team members are expected to attend in-person team meetings one week each month, typically at the New York City headquarters. Additionally, participation is expected during our annual, weeklong all-staff summit.

Responsibilities



  • Overall responsibility and accountability for the successful development and delivery of a SAAS product that is valued by users, financially sustainable, and lead to greater social impact.
  • Articulate an inspiring product vision and strategy for Candid's SAAS product as an exemplar of the power of data for good.
  • Lead and own the overall product roadmap and full product lifecycle in service of that vision with an approach that empowers teams, is user-centric, encourages continuous improvement. and drives value alignment, innovation, and growth.
  • Coach and accelerate the adoption of rapid prototyping and experimentation in pursuit of solution discovery, refinement, and post-release continuous improvement.
  • Design, refine, and scale modern best practices within product team that enables collaboration between product, engineering, design, marketing, and sales.
  • As a member of the executive team, be jointly accountable for Candid's overall success including strategic planning, leadership development, change management, and both organizational and fiscal health.
  • Develop a nuanced understanding of the competitive landscape, market dynamics, and diverse customer needs.
  • Drive both rapid and breakthrough innovations to respond to evolving needs and opportunities. Take a highly iterative and experimental approach to validating potential solutions to inform the most promising investments.
  • Work closely with the VP of Growth on packaging and pricing to ensure products meet market needs, deliver on revenue targets, and are broadly accessible by those who can benefit.
  • Advocate for the voice of the customer and lead cross-functional technical, business intelligence, and user insights teams to delight users.
  • Own key product success metrics including, but not limited to monthly active users, engagement, churn, and active subscribers.
  • Be a public spokesperson for Candid's mission and products.



Requirements



  • 10+ years software product management experience with progressively greater responsibilities and senior leadership roles.
  • Strong strategic and systems thinker who can motivate and inspire cross-functional teams.
  • Deeply user-focused mindset, ensuring that every product decision is grounded in real user needs, behaviors, and feedback.
  • Proven practical experience working and managing using modern best practices for product management, including deep user interaction, continuous releases, and rapid experimentation and prototyping to accelerate solution development, delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Passion for and understanding of the social sector.
  • Strong technical background, including understanding of modern software development tools and practices. BS degree preferred.
  • An outstanding track record that demonstrates a healthy balance of vision, innovation, and ability to execute.
  • Experience with human-centered design, agile software development, and lean experimentation.
  • B2B subscription product management experience preferred.
  • Data driven decision maker.
  • Diligent listener and communicator; ability to adapt approach among diverse audiences; comfortable in a highly dynamic work environment.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to perform other duties and special projects as needed/requested.
  • Sensitivity and respect for racial, gender, sexual orientation, and cultural differences.
