Nature of Work: This is skilled manual labor work involving the maintenance, cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and replacing of the City's sanitary and sanitary combined sewer collection systems infrastructure to protect the environment and public from sewer spills. Employees in the classification may act as a lead worker and train subordinate employees. This position requires operation of specialized sewer cleaning automotive equipment. Work is performed with some independence with general guidance and supervision received from an assigned supervisor.

Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. Two (2) years of experience in construction, maintenance, or sewer cleaning.
High school graduation or its equivalent is preferred.

Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid Class B Commercial driver's license with N endorsement and no air brake restrictions by the end of the probationary period.

Must possess and maintain the following certifications by the end of the probationary period:
*Second Grade Hoisting and Portable Engineer's certificate
*Confined Space Entry
*Work Zone Traffic Control
*Competent Person Shoring and Trench Safety
*Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Certification
*Forklift operator's certificate

Must possess and maintain within one (1) year:
*Nebraska Pesticide Applicators License for categories 05S, Sewer Root control, and 07, right-of-way pest control

Must be available to work on-call and after hours to respond to emergency situations as necessary.

Pay Range: $22.46 with step increases to $30.91 Hourly

Examination Information: The multiple-choice/written examination will be on August 15, 2025, at 9:00am at the Omaha/Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam Street, 12th floor, room 1210. An invitation via email to the exam will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to the test for the position. The test is designed to assess knowledge of the job, skills, and abilities of this position. The passing score on the examination is 60%. This will be weighted 100% in the final score.

Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by August 15, 2025.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge of, and ability to operate, computers and other mobile technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks.
* Knowledge of Confined Space entry.
* Knowledge of the geography of the City.
* Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operations.
* Skill in the use and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
* Skill in minor maintenance and repairs to equipment such as jet nozzles, jet saws, hose and reels, jet truck and single-axle vacuum truck, pickup truck, and truck mounted snow removal equipment.
* Ability to fit into a 24in wide manhole structure and utilize a ladder or confined space entry equipment to enter and exit structures.
* Ability to work in a confined space such as a manhole and/or trench depending on the assigned division.
* Ability to read and understand street maps and quarter section maps to determine the placement of pavement markings and the location of sewer collection components.
* Ability to perform minor mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
* Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software.
* Ability to maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other city employees, members of the public, and contractors and their agents.
* Ability to learn and adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
* Ability to learn and become proficient in the use of SCBA equipment and be pulmonary and fit tested for safe use.
* Ability to learn and apply MUTCD rules for Work Zone Safety and Temporary Traffic Control.

* Provides skilled assistance in the maintenance and monitoring activities of the City's wastewater collection systems.
* Injects dye into the sewer lines and assists with the operation of closed-circuit television equipment to inspect sewer pipes for defects or blockages.
* Operates jetting, jet sawing, and jet vacuuming equipment to clean sewer mains and stormwater systems.
* Applies chemical control of root growth into sewer pipes.
* Uses chemical spray and manual labor to maintain accessibility to facilities and equipment.
* Picks up, loads, and removes debris from streets and sidewalks after storms.
* Reviews maps and locates manholes, piping, and other collection system structures.
* Monitors safety of work areas, determines need for traffic control measures, and places and retrieves temporary traffic control devices.
* Performs cleanup and routine maintenance of job sites, vehicles, and equipment, including securing tools and equipment for transportation and removing debris and trash.
* Monitors supplies and inventory for assigned equipment and initiates requests for required parts, tools and materials.
* Collects data, updates maps, and records any work-related documentation.
* Completes and submits reports of work to maintain extensive records of the wastewater collection systems.
* Responds to and resolves citizens' reports, questions, and concerns as delegated by the supervisor.
* Operates snow removal equipment to remove snow from streets.
* Establishes turf by trimming, fertilizing, spraying, weeding, and erosion control matting.
* Removes snow from sidewalks and driveways using snow blowers, shovels, and other automotive equipment for job site preparation.
* Operates underground electronic line-locating equipment and marks ground surfaces showing the pipe and structure locations.
* Uses utility location request system to receive and respond to requests for sewer locations.
* Uses sewer mapping and magnetic locator to locate and mark sewer manholes and lines in the field.
* Uses various hand tools to clean sewer structures such as manholes and sewer inlets.
* Operates a jet truck or single-axle combination jet/vacuum truck to clean sewer lines and structures.
* Operates easement equipment to gain access to manholes not easily accessible by truck in order to clean and maintain line segments.
* Reads work orders and quarter section maps in either paper or electronic form to find work locations to complete orders.
* Enters data into the mobile device for simple manhole and sewer line condition assessment information, recording updates and any information not on current work order.
* Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by a supervisor.
* Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.
