Description
Steelcase is hiring a Model Shop Manager to translate company strategy into actionable plans for the Model Shop; driving operational excellence through people, process, and capability development, while fostering global cross-functional collaboration.
What you will be doing:
  • Develop people, processes, and model making capabilities.
  • Allocate and manage resources within a defined budget.
  • Build and nurture relationships cross-functionally and globally; across design, engineering, and product development.
  • Demonstrate the ability to implement the strategic plan and design, communicate and evaluate key performance metrics.
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a model shop, product development or operations role
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience
Your future team:
The Model Shop is a key partner in product development, working closely with designers and engineers to turn ideas into physical prototypes, learn from the making of those prototypes, and iterate using those learnings.
The team is comprised of approximately 25-30 model making professionals who have technical expertise across a variety of areas (foam core, metal, plastics, upholstery, wood) as well as skill sets that range from early concept prototyping to high resolution models that have the appearance and ability to function as the final product. As part of product development, the model making team members are partners to their peers in other functions. Contributing far more than the making of physical objects, each team member offers insights and ideas, synthesizes learnings, and is a key member of the product development effort.
