Summary: Under the general supervision of the management of Infrastructure Services, provides computer or device hardware, software, and local area network support to assure a high value, widely accessible, comprehensive, integrated information network which meets or exceeds customer expectations. The incumbent functions as a team participant in development and control of all, hardware, and computer peripherals and any devices that connect to the Brown University Health Local Area Networks at affiliate and enterprise levels and will act as a technical resource for other staff with computer equipment support issues. They must possess good customer relation skills, as they will be interfacing with customers daily. Responsibilities: Participates in implementing computer hardware, peripherals, and software. These implementations may be site-specific as well as enterprise deployable. Support complex system installations at the client operating system level, and client rollout level. Performs identification, troubleshooting, and resolution of client operating system, hardware, software and e-communications compatibility and integration; resolves problems in accordance with departmental policy/procedure and security regulations. May also be required to identify recurring issues, document, and escalate them to appropriate IT Teams. Performs setup and installation of computer hardware, software, software updates, peripheral equipment, and system components. Provides ongoing support after installation Provides off- hours on call coverage (potentially including weekends and holidays) as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Equivalent to Associate’s Degree with course work in Information Technology. Must have experience in computer based technologies, hardware, software, and peripherals. These would include PCs, monitors, cables, wireless/wired network systems, printers, IP-based phones, and cell phone integration as well as modern client operating systems and software (e.g. Windows 7, Windows 10, Microsoft Office, etc.). A combination of computer related technical training and technical microcomputer work experience may substitute for a degree. EXPERIENCE: Two years’ experience in configuring client computers, including making physical modifications to hardware and installing and testing software. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties are performed in a typical office environment, requiring extended periods of sitting, walking, and/or standing. It may also require lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lbs. Personal vehicle use is required, and mileage is reimbursed at the Internal Revenue Service rate. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Employee functions independently within department policies and practices; generally, refers specific problems to management only where clarification of departmental policies may be required.
