JOB SUMMARY
As an Intern, you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our projects' success.
Success in this role depends on the Intern's initiative and teamwork skills. A successful Intern will cultivate strong relationships and leverage data-driven insights to implement best practices that protect lives, reduce injuries, and enhance safety-ensuring everyone returns home the same way they arrived.
McKenney's has a long history of success in hiring Co-ops and supporting their evolution into industry leaders. Many of our current senior leaders began their journey in the Co-op program.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work alongside Safety Specialists and Safety Managers to help project safety efforts.
  • Utilizing tools, such as predictive AI, regularly review and analyze safety data for significant trends and support efforts in communicating those trends and lessons learned with the business.
  • Support root cause analysis of incidents related to injuries and near misses.
  • Walk jobsites and fabrication shops with safety team to learn about construction workflow, identify hazards, and survey for adherence to safety values.
  • Assist in responding to project-related safety inquiries by PMs, APMs, and Field Leaders.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • Candidates must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate student currently enrolled at an accredited university majoring in Risk Management, Occupational Safety, or a related degree.
  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office, web apps, and database software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Effective communicator across diverse teams, including PMs, drafting, field staff, and fabrication shops.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and detail-focused.
  • Productive in fast-paced environments with strong multitasking skills.
  • Able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage workload efficiently.
  • Skilled at building trust and long-lasting professional relationships.
  • Excellent problem-solver.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.
  • No or limited exposure to physical risk; occasional jobsite visits may require climbing permanent and temporary stairs/ladders, passenger use of hoists, and navigating active construction areas.
  • Light physical effort handling average weight objects up to 50 pounds may be required occasionally.
