The C. Eugene Bennett Department of Chemistry at West Virginia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Under the leadership of Professor Lisa Holland, this position will conduct research in the field of capillary electrophoresis separations, enzyme-based analyses, fluorescence detection absorbance detection and mass spectrometry. Capillary electrophoresis analyses will be conducted on biologically relevant molecules to correlate protein and ligand sialylation with enzyme and receptor interactions. The research requires capillary electrophoresis and microfluidic electrophoresis method development and application of optical and mass spectrometry detectors. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.

The Department of Chemistry consists of 10 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 10 teaching faculty, and approximately 55 graduate students, organized around traditional and cross-cutting research areas. Further information can be found at the Department website: https://www.chemistry.wvu.edu/.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: perform independent experimental data analysis and draw sound scientific conclusions from these experiments; design and implement independent laboratory and field experiment activities according to protocol, maintaining detailed logs of work-related activities; write and present research/study status reports for review and use of the Principal Investigator; apprise Dr. Holland of research progress through formal weekly group meetings, search scientific literature to select and modify methods and procedures most appropriate for research goals and in addition will read scientific literature, attend workshops and research conferences and to keep abreast of technological advances and current research findings.

A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field is required.

In addition, the successful applicant must show evidence of the ability to conduct experiments using electrophoresis (microfluidic or capillary), mass spectrometry, and enzyme characterization; demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills.
