Smith College: Massachusetts: Department of Physics Location Northampton, MA Open Date Aug 05, 2025 Description The Department of Physics at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, starting July 1, 2026. We're looking for a dedicated scholar to join our vibrant academic community. A Ph.D. in Physics, Medical Physics, or a closely related field is expected by the time of appointment. Research: We are seeking candidates with research expertise in experimental or theoretical soft matter physics, with a preference for biophysics or medical physics. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct high-impact research that actively involves undergraduate students. To support your research, you and your students will have access to the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center plus a substantial departmental endowment for research equipment purchases. You'll also have dedicated research lab space and the support of a well-equipped and staffed center for design and fabrication. Annually renewed general research and conference travel funds, new faculty mentoring programs for teaching and research, and research grants for students are also available. Teaching: This position involves teaching two courses per semester (four courses per year). You'll teach a range of courses within the standard undergraduate physics curriculum and contribute to its evolution by incorporating biophysics and/or medical physics. In the medium term, you'll play a key role in developing a dedicated biophysics/medical physics pathway within the physics major.
