Position Summary
The University Libraries is seeking a temporary Facility Maintenance Technician to serve as the second building facilities staff member for the UNC Libraries.

Supervised by and working together with the Library Facilities Manager, this position will work to integrate people, places, technology, and processes within the built environment, with the purpose of supporting and improving the quality of work life of people and the productivity of the core business.

This position will proactively identify and correct facility and maintenance needs of the Library building facilities and workspaces and will have joint responsibility for the daily physical operation of the Libraries' buildings.

This position:
* Coordinates the daily maintenance of all library facilities under the supervision of the Library Facilities Manager
* Serves as a backup to Library Facilities Manager
* Works on library facilities and maintenance projects such as painting, wall repair, ceiling tile replacement and facility cleanup
* Moves/constructs/breaks down furniture using Library tools
* Performs daily walkthroughs of buildings to scan for facilities needs and repairs includes Housekeeping and plumbing problems, broken door locks, problems with access doors
* Escorts UNC facilities staff and vendors and confirming repairs made
* Serves as technical resource to UNC Facilities staff and outside contractors
* Responds to Library facilities requests and emergencies (fire alarms, security alarms, panic alarms, plumbing leaks, spills, sprinkler issues, non-functioning OneCard readers)
* Communicates and works with UNC Police, Facilities Services, Environmental Health and Safety, and designated Library staff on emergencies
* Maintains a high-level knowledge of University policies related to building management (e.g. use of facilities, smoking, posting signs, key control, etc.) and informs building occupants of procedures
* Works with surplus and commodities management, including inventory tagging and tracking
* Works with Library telecommunications, recycling, and housekeeping to maintain Library operations and maintain a safe, clean and effective environment
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* General knowledge of the methods, practices, and materials used in the general maintenance and repair of buildings and machinery
* Ability to function independently and manage time
* Ability to read blueprints and schematics
* Working knowledge Microsoft Office
* Ability to communicate effectively
* Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse user communities, including students, faculty, researchers, colleagues, and community members
* Experience creating welcoming and inclusive learning and research environments
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience in an academic or nonprofit environment.
* Customer service experience
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
* Will require sufficient physical conditioning to be able to stand, sit, walk, and climb stairs and ladders for long periods of time while task in the performance of building and facilities maintenance work
* Ability to navigate stairs and climb ladders; ability to work in small tight spaces and bend, stoop, and crawl to complete work
* Must be able to move 50 pounds; physical strength to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks with or without accommodations
* Will require a valid NC Driver's License to operate a University cargo van/minivan
* Duties to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation
