The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a qualified Firefighter to support our contract with the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) on Kauai, Hawai'i.

Under the supervision of a Lieutenant, functions as part of a team conducting emergency service operations. Deploys and operates firefighting hose lines, hose line appliances, and specialized tools and equipment. Conducts inspections of all service-support resources and performs preventive maintenance as required.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all activities associated with structure firefighting
  • Performs all activities associated with rescue operations
  • Performs all activities associated with Airfield Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF).
  • Follows established protocols in providing medical care to the sick and/or injured
  • Completes recurring proficiency training as required.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on fire station facilities and apparatus
  • Performs inspection and routine maintenance on specialized tools and equipment
  • Participates in periodic service testing of vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Ability to work at heights, in hazardous environments and under hazardous conditions.
  • Ability to work in enclosed spaces while wearing a full facemask; non-claustrophobic
  • Ability to work well with other as part of a team
  • Ability to function under duress.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written format
  • Must pass an annual performance fitness evaluation consisting of essential job tasks.
  • Must function effectively while wearing respiratory protection -- face mask with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
  • Must meet the medical requirements outlined in NFPA 1582, Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments, Chapter 6.
  • Must participate in mandatory on-duty exercise and fitness training program
  • Must participate in an annual fitness assessment consisting of the following components: aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.
  • Must participate in an annual respiratory protection training evaluation in accordance with requirements of NFPA 1404, Standard for Fire Service Respiratory Protection Training.
  • Must complete strenuous fireground tasks as assigned during an emergency situation or in a training environment.

Office conditions are varied and include physical tasks including lifting, pushing or pulling over 50 pounds (with a 2-person assist). Physical positions will include but not be limited to walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, and crawling, kneeling or cramped workspaces, requiring repeated stooping and frequent stair climbing. The environment will include customer contact, extended workdays, in a confined work area, field assignments, sometimes in inclement weather.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Must have a current Hawaii Driver's License
  • Must have the following Professional Certifications (IFSAC or ProBoard affiliate);
    • Fire Fighter I
    • Fire Fighter II
    • HazMat - Operations
    • Airport Firefighter
  • Must have current licensure through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician- Basic (NREMT-B) license or higher
  • Must have a current CPR/AED card- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) affiliate.
  • Must successfully pass an annual skills validation evaluation on the professional firefighter certifications required of this position.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 21 years of age.
  • Must possess the following PC skills:
    • MICROSOFT OFFICE: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

One-year (1) experience as a firefighter preferred.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Secret security clearance is required. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
