Job Description

The Toolmaker is responsible for setup, programming, and operation of CNC & manual machines (Sharp & Hass) for the manufacturing of precision components, including tooling and gears. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in machining operations, be proficient in CNC programming (CAM software), and demonstrate expertise in tool making and gear/pinion cutting with a Horizontal Gear Hobbing Machine- Baber Colman 6-10.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine the design and build requirements for tools, dies, and other components.
  • Manufacture, assemble, and maintain complex tools, dies, and fixtures to support prototype builds and Lab testing stands.
  • Test completed tools and dies to ensure they meet specifications and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Set up and operate various machine tools, including lathes, manual and CNC milling machines, grinders, and drill presses, to produce precision parts.
  • Hob and inspect Gears / Pinions to exacting tolerances using proper tooling and measurement equipment.
  • Create and modify CNC programs using G-code and Feature CAM software.
  • Plan the sequence of operations and select the materials and tools required to complete the job.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in accordance with safety and 5S standards.
  • Conduct in-process inspections and make adjustments to ensure part accuracy and quality.
  • Maintain machines and tooling in good working condition; perform routine maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or associate degree in machining or manufacturing technology preferred
  • 10+ years of experience as a CNC Machinist
  • Experience using lathes, grinders and drill press
  • Proficient in CNC programming and CAM software
  • Strong knowledge of tool making and gear cutting methods and equipment
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Skilled to work independently and troubleshoot machining issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
