The purpose of this position is to facilitate the provision of recreational activities for City of Allen and surrounding area residents. This is accomplished by providing numerous forms of customer service at the Senior Recreation Center. Other duties may include registering citizens for classes, activities, processing POS transactions, registering citizens for membership, assisting in opening and closing duties, maintaining the facility, providing various administrative services and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Essential Functions

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Oversees streets and drainage divisions operations by receiving work orders and assignments, assigning jobs to proper crew members, managing work on highly visible, complex, or critical work assignments, and conducting quality control processes to ensure use of proper techniques and processes.
  • Supervises employees by scheduling employee classes and training, conducting performance evaluations, coordinating duty rosters, interviewing applicants, selecting applicants for hire, and performing disciplinary duties.
  • Maintains department inventories by assessing supply and equipment needs, ordering and receiving parts and equipment, maintaining inventory records, processing payments, contacting vendors for quotes and questions, and inspecting received parts and equipment for completeness and damages.
  • Provides customer service by communicating with customers, contractors, vendors, and city personnel, assessing customer needs, solving problems, and deploying Department resources as required.
  • Monitors streets, drainage, and sidewalk programs by assigning crews and working with contractors, reviewing appropriate steps to complete jobs, and obtaining accurate details and costs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Associate's degree in a related field and five (5) years of relevant experience, or equivalent.

Certification and Other Requirements
  • Preference for Stormwater Inspector Certification.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's license

Supervision Exercised:
Work is normally reviewed upon completion, with occasional spot checks while in process, to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformance to established standards; autonomy is granted at the service or program level; work is subject to general and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Overall Physical Strength Demands
Light - Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
  • Ability to work in the field, outdoors, in extreme weather conditions, and around mechanical, electrical, fire, and respiratory hazards.
  • Ability to use electric and hand tools.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to reach, lift, push, pull, carry, bend, twist, climb, and crouch.
  • Ability to operate city or personal vehicle for business purposes.
