Position Title Project Elevate Program Specialist

General Responsibilities
Responsibilities included providing student transportation, academic support, and supervision throughout the program. Serve as a GED tutor across core subjects and assisted students in both classroom and computer lab settings, offering one-on-one and small group instruction. Support the Program Manager in all aspects of programming and various administrative tasks. Aid in student registration for credit and noncredit courses. Contribute to program implementation activities such as mentoring, student engagement, and career/post-secondary planning.
Work Performed

  • Serve as the lead driver to transport students to and from the program
  • Serve as a tutor in the several subjects of the GED (math, science, social studies, and science)
  • Work with students in the classroom and computer labs one-on-one or in small groups
  • Monitor students during breaks, lunch time, and other activities around campus
  • Support the Program Manager is communicating with other departments and other agencies such as the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services and Howard County Office of Workforce Development
  • Assist the Program Manager in registering students in credit and noncredit classes by working with admissions and advising offices, GED program, and workforce programs
  • Working with the Program Manager, implement other program activities (mentoring, participation in Dragon life, post-secondary planning, etc.)
  • Assist the Program Manager with administrative tasks such as documentation, paperwork, and ordering supplies
  • Support the Program Manager in all aspects of the program
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Education Required Bachelor's degree
Minimum Number of Years Experience Required 4
Other Knowledge Required

  • A belief that everyone can succeed and that the past does not predict the future
  • Ability to tutor students one-on-one or in very small groups in at least two of the GED subjects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with youth ages 16-21
  • Proficiency with standard productivity software (Microsoft and Google) and excellent computer skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of this job

Working Conditions
* Flexibility required in this fast-paced program.
* Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as program needs dictate.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
