POSITION PURPOSE:
The Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) will serve on various USACE and USAF task orders/projects under several IDIQ contracts at Nellis/Creech AFB. The SSHO is responsible for safe execution of all work in compliance with all corporate, federal, state, and site safety requirements. The SSHO is required to be on site at all times during construction activities,
overseeing and ensuring safe working conditions for all personnel, including subcontractors, and visitors. The SSHO works with program and project staff to develop site-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APPs)/Site Safety and Health Plans (SSHPs).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements the company's health and safety program.
- Conducts and/or participates in associated training, safety meetings, and inspections.
- Supervises safety of all field activities, in-house and subcontract trades, and coordinates site logistics.
- Implements site safety and emergency plans.
- Observes and assists in compliance with subcontractors.
- Coordinates with subcontractors in timely development of activity hazard analysis (AHA) and control measures for scopes.
- Performs daily safety inspections and reporting of inspections.
- Prepares daily reports, job diaries, narratives, and all other documentation as determined by the company and by the project needs.
- Communicates and supports a proactive culture of Safety.
- Routinely assesses work activities to ensure tasks are performed safely and in accordance with the requirements detailed in the EM-385-1-1, project scopes/specifications, and APP/AHAs.
- Enforces all regulatory, base, and company specific safety rules.
- Ensures equipment and other project resources are inspected, meet APP safety requirements, and adequate to meet the intended function for the project.
- Provides day-to-day technical overview of on-site project activities.
- Authority to stop work for conditions adverse to quality or safety.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other duties as are appropriate and as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least five (5) years of experience in the role of a SSHO on DoD construction projects.
- A minimum of five (5) years of continuous safety-related roles in increasing size and complexity. Specifically:
- Five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising/ managing general construction (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls), OR
- Five (5) years of continuous general industry safety experience in supervising/ managing general industry (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls).
- A combination of experience and education that demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and abilities will be considered.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must possess a working knowledge of computer systems such as Adobe Pro (PDF), Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Able to communicate both written and verbally in English.
- High level proficiency in written and verbal communication is required.
- Must be a self-starter, well organized, and able to work independently with minimal direction.
- Must have a good understanding of applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements for construction.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Driver's License compliant with REAL ID ACT.
- Must be able to pass company pre-employment and Government NCIS background checks and drug screening.
- OSHA 30 certificate or ability to obtain at the time of hire.
- Thorough knowledge of EM 385-1-1.
- CPR - First Aid certification.
- Must be local to Las Vegas, NV or be willing to relocate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. The position will include prolonged periods of sitting in order to perform administrative duties.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The position will require work to be performed indoors and outdoors. The employee will be exposed to various weather conditions. Other hazards include, but are not limited to working near heavy equipment, noise hazards, chemicals, cleaning products, asbestos, lead based paint, contaminated soils, road traffic, etc.
