The Senior Global Customs Classification Leader for the North America Region is responsible for overseeing the accurate and compliant classification of goods for import and export, ensuring adherence to customs regulations and facilitating smooth international trade operations. The area assigned covers United States of America, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbeans.

This role involves leading a team of customs classification professionals, developing and implementing classification policies, providing expert guidance, and ensuring the organization's compliance with customs laws and trade agreements.

This position reports to the Global Customs Governance Leader and works in close collaboration with the Global Customs Operations Teams in IET and OFSE segments.

As Senior Responsible Supply Chain Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leadership and Team Management:

Directing and managing a team of customs classification specialists, providing guidance, training, and performance management.

Overlooking metrics and KPI's: Classifications requests, Brokers escalations and related cycle-time reporting and optimization

  • Policy Development and Implementation:

Establishing and maintaining classification policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with customs regulations like the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Regulation and others (as per local laws by Country).

  • Classification Expertise:

Determining and maintaining accurate Harmonized System (HS) codes for products, conducting thorough technical analysis of goods, and providing expert advice on classification matters.

  • Compliance and Risk Management:

Identifying and mitigating risks associated with incorrect or late classification, ensuring compliance with import/export regulations, and managing potential penalties.

  • Training and Development:

Developing and delivering training programs to educate internal stakeholders on customs classification requirements and procedures.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration:

Working with various internal departments (e.g., logistics, supply chain, finance) and external stakeholders (e.g., customs brokers, government agencies) to ensure accurate classification and smooth customs operations.

  • Audit and Review:

Participating in internal and external customs audits, providing support and guidance on classification-related matters, and ensuring compliance with audit requirements.

  • System Management:

Managing and maintaining classification databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity, and potentially acting as a product owner for customs compliance modules within enterprise systems.

  • Continuous Improvement:

Identifying opportunities to improve classification processes, streamline operations, and enhance overall customs compliance.

Fuel your passion

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Expertise in Customs Regulations:

A US Licensed Customs Broker demonstrating a deep understanding of international trade laws, customs regulations, and classification systems (e.g., HS codes, tariff schedules, export control, etc.).

  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

Ability to analyze technical product information, identify relevant classification criteria, and resolve complex classification issues.

  • Leadership and Communication Skills:

Ability to lead and motivate a team, effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences, and build strong relationships with stakeholders.

  • Attention to Detail and Accuracy:

Meticulous approach to ensure accurate classification and compliance with customs regulations.

  • Experience with Customs Systems:

Familiarity with customs brokerage systems, trade compliance software, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

  • Technical Background:

Engineering background or understanding of product engineering is desirable

  • Export Control Requirement

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
