As our Lead Payroll Technician, you'll be the go-to authority for all things payroll. You'll ensure accurate and timely payroll services across multiple locations, guide Payroll Technicians through complex issues, and collaborate with departments to resolve challenges. This is a hands-on role that blends technical expertise, leadership, and customer service.

This position is available ashybrid or fully remote, depending on geographical location.

Pay Range:$25.88 - 37.00/hour depending on experience and position level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and provide basic services to employees; enter preferences for voluntary deductions, direct deposits and tax withholdings, answer pay questions, and reprint W-2 forms, etc.
  • First line of review for questions from Payroll Technicians regarding complex issues; provide guidance and training, monitor workloads, and encourage goal attainment
  • Calculate corrections and exceptions to the payroll process, confirm authorization levels, and input in the system for next cycle or on-demand checks
  • Advanced understanding of payroll systems, DOL, FLSA and policy regulations; time evaluation, interfaces, and implications for payroll
  • Apply knowledge and experience in the interpretation of court orders to appropriately withhold child support payments and other garnishments; research issues with courts and provide data
  • Execute centralized Friend of the Court (FOC) programs; research and resolve interface issues with IT
  • Work with other departments to resolve issues
  • Run programs that transfer data through interfaces and make payroll calculations from time and attendance through gross, gross-to-net, payroll taxes, and general ledger with a solid understanding of the impact to general ledgers and payroll taxes
  • Apply comprehension of controls to reconcile balances; identify and resolve complex issues
  • Provide requested data to internal and external customers while adhering to confidentiality policies
  • Conduct tests within the payroll system concerning new rates and withholding schedules
  • Support the generation and distribution of W-2 forms
  • Accountable for the accurate and timely performance of leadership duties; share in the stewardship and oversight of the department

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May direct the work of others

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of progressive payroll experience with an ERP payroll system in a high volume, multi-state environment
  • Two (2) years of experience with SAP payroll or related business systems
  • Proven aptitude for understanding payroll system functionality
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tax regulations related to payroll activities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to communicate intricate job-related processes to internal and external customers
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate, analyze, and interpret mathematical information such as percent differences, ratios, median, mean, weighted average, etc.
  • Proven analytical problem solver
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities
  • Understanding of accounting principles
  • Understanding of multi-state payrolls with solid payroll tax skills and experiences
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in business, human resources, information technology or related field of study, preferred
  • Advanced payroll knowledge or experience, preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
  • Experience with in-house payroll processing, preferred
  • Experience with multi-state child support and garnishment, preferred
