What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Lead Equipment Maintenance Technician to ensure the operational availability of advanced 4680 battery cell manufacturing equipment. This role involves applying technical expertise to install, maintain, and repair high-speed, high-volume mechanical and electrical systems, factory automation, and robotics. As first-responding problem solvers, Leads manage machine breakdowns and recoveries while providing technical leadership to other technicians on shift and supporting shift supervisors in maintaining production efficiency.

What You'll Do
  • Perform preventative maintenance on industrial production and mechatronic equipment, as well as major equipment repairs, rebuilds, and installations
  • Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and communicate required actions across relevant teams
  • Collaborate with process and equipment engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and maintenance protocols
  • Conduct corrective maintenance on electrical systems ranging from 24 VDC to 480 VAC 3 phase, mechanical systems, conveyor systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, vacuum systems, PLC networks, vision/inspection equipment, and robots
  • Order parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogues and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms
  • Log all work performed utilizing Tesla CMMS
  • Perform other tasks as instructed by management

What You'll Bring
  • Three or more years of experience in maintenance on production manufacturing equipment or equivalent training or relevant education
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, lead small groups through task delegation and mentoring, and analyze problems to implement long-term solutions
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical assembly drawings and accurately measure and inspect tolerances
  • Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical systems like drive gears, hydraulics, pneumatics, and complex electrical systems including servo motors, VFDs, and PLC I/O
  • Adherence to maintenance safety protocols such as LOTO, 5S, and arc flash
  • Command of the English language, both written and verbal

Essential Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
  • Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
  • Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach
  • Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
  • Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: PAPR, safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines

    Expected Compensation
    $44.45 - $66.78/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
