Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire an Estate Accountant for the Private Client Group. The Estate Accountant will be responsible for performing a variety of fiduciary accounting tasks, including estate and tax planning projections and estate and trust administration. This position works closely with Private Client partners and directly with Firm clients.

Morgan Lewis recognizes the benefits of supporting flexible working arrangements. This position will reside in our Boston, New York or Philadelphia office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule (consisting of 3 days in-office and 2 days remote).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation and review of all types of fiduciary income tax returns, including federal estate tax returns, income tax returns for trusts and estates, Generation-Skipping Transfer tax forms, PA inheritance tax returns, gift tax returns, Form 990s, and tax returns for charitable trusts.

  • Assist in the response of IRS audits including the written draft response and coordination of exhibits.

  • Responsible for maintaining group task management database, File-in-Time, to accurately track deadlines of tax returns, annuity payments, Form 709s and ETIPs.

  • Provide support to lawyers as part of client team. This includes running calculations for interest on notes, tax projections and estate plans, analytical analysis, tax projections, and estate planning flow charts.

  • Work closely with clients regarding accounting and tax issues pertaining to individuals, partnerships, and corporations.

  • Research relevant tax laws related to tax preparation.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, and a minimum 3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficiency in Lackner; Lacerte; Number Cruncher; Tiger Tables and FDS security pricing or similar trust accounting and tax systems.

  • Certified Public Accountant license is preferred.

  • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact with High Net Worth clients; team player; ability to manage fast-paced, high volume workload.

For positions in New York, NY the salary range for this job posting is: $106,600- $170,500.

The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
