Job Description:

A Much Ado Catering Banquet Captain oversees the service of banquet events, ensuring that all aspects of the event are executed smoothly and efficiently. This role involves supervising the catering staff, coordinating event logistics, and providing exceptional customer service to clients and guests.

Much Ado Catering is the Catering Department under Davidson Dining Services. This is a 9 -month temporary on-call position and may need to work evenings and weekends. During the academic year, our dining locations operate seven days a week serving three meals a day for the students, guests, staff, and faculty of Davidson College. This position is a part of the Davidson Dining Services Department and may require cross departmental assistance in another dining location outside of catering.

Key Responsibilities:



  1. Event Coordination:

    • Read and follow event BEO's (Banquet Event Orders) to effectively manage event requests, service elements, and timelines.
    • Coordinate with the event coordinator, catering manager, and kitchen staff to ensure all event details are understood and executed.
    • Oversee the setup of banquet rooms according to event specifications, including arranging tables, chairs, linens, and decor.
    • Ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available and in working order.

  2. Staff Supervision:

    • Supervise and direct the catering staff during events, including servers, bartenders, and other support staff.
    • Assign specific tasks and responsibilities to team members.
    • Provide training and guidance to staff to ensure high-quality service.

  3. Service Management:

    • Oversee the serving of food and beverages to guests, ensuring timely and efficient service following all local food health and safety standards.
    • Address any service issues or guest complaints promptly and professionally.
    • Ensure that food is presented attractively and meets quality standards.

  4. Client and Guest Interaction:

    • Serve as the main point of contact for clients and guests during the event.
    • Ensure client and guest satisfaction by addressing any concerns and accommodating special requests.
    • Gather feedback from clients and guests to improve future events.

  5. Post-Event Duties:

    • Oversee the breakdown and cleanup of the event site, ensuring all equipment and supplies are properly stored.
    • Conduct a final inspection of the venue to ensure it is left in excellent condition.
    • Upon return to the catering pantry ensure all equipment is unloaded and put away in an organized manner.

  6. Logistics and Planning:

    • Assist in planning event timelines and schedules.
    • Coordinate transportation and delivery of food, supplies, and equipment to the event location.
    • Ensure all catering equipment is clean, in proper working condition, and stored correctly.
    • Comply with health and safety regulations.

  7. Team Collaboration:

    • Work closely with managers, other banquet captains, catering staff and kitchen personnel to accomplish a common goal.
    • Follow instructions from Catering Manager

  8. Policy and Procedures:

    • Ability to maintain and uphold the policies and procedures of Much Ado Catering and Davidson Dining Services.
    • Policies including but not limited to dress code, personal hygiene, safety standards, attendance, and all others identified in the employee handbook
    • A Much Ado Catering Associate is a direct representative of the department and must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.



Qualifications:



  • Previous experience in banquet or catering services, experience in a supervisory role is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently or as a part of a team.
  • Display a sense of urgency.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • A valid Driver's Licenses and Ability to Drive Catering Vehicles


Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, frequently the entire shift.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to perform tasks that involve bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a high level of accuracy


Working Conditions:



  • Work is performed in various environments, including kitchens, banquet halls, and outdoor venues.
  • May involve exposure to hot and cold temperatures, loud noise, and busy environments.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
