LPN - School-based Asthma Therapy

Overview:

0.8 FTE, 32 hours/week year-round.

Day shift; negotiable start time between 7am and 8am.

LPN will travel to assigned patient schools during some part of workday. Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance is required by hospital policy. Must pass a motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital.

LPNs with the School-based asthma therapy (SBAT) Program perform asthma follow-up visits at different schools, communicates related needs for child's medication regimen, identify needs for home and school medications reconciliation, maintain records, initiate changes, transport medications, and coordinate asthma care between home, school, and patient's asthma care provider.

Essential Functions:
  • Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians or advanced practice providers.
  • Monitors patients' vital signs and records their medical histories.
  • Assists physicians and registered nurses in performing medical procedures.
  • Provides emotional support and education to patients and their families.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans.

Education Requirement:

Graduate of an approved school of practical or vocational nursing, required.


Licensure Requirement:

Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Ohio, required.


Certifications:

BLS, required.


Skills:
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in specified nursing care.
  • Positive, effective, and age appropriate interaction skills with patient/family, physicians and other health care team member.
