The Senior Manager, Clean Energy Tax Planning role is responsible for the federal tax planning activities of AES' US based operations including renewable energy, non-renewable power generation and transaction support for utility investments. The role partners with the M&A, business development, finance to lead all aspects of tax due diligence and structuring for new development opportunities, acquisitions and dispositions. The position also provides state and local tax planning support to the Corporate Tax Planning team. Key activities of the role include: performing research, and issue based analysis, supporting transaction execution, preparation of internal documentation, managing external tax advisors, coordinating with the tax provision and tax compliance teams, and presenting conclusions to tax and other finance leaders. Familiarity / interest in the unique tax and accounting financial modeling considerations associated with tax equity investment partnerships is desirable. Strong communication, judgement and interpersonal skills are essential to the success of this role. This position reports to the Senior Director, Clean Energy Tax Planning and manages a senior associate.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for complete and accurate tax analysis for any acquisition, disposition or reorganizations related to AES Clean Energy investments. evaluate and recommend structures/alternatives for proposed transactions (mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, inter-company transfers, etc.).

  • Work collaboratively with finance, treasury and business development teams to provide high quality tax support for M&A and business driven transactions including application of unique industry specific rules.

  • Work closely with the Directors of US Tax Reporting and JV Partner equivalent on technical tax issues outside of core transaction support work to ensure tax implications of business and tax driven transactions are timely communicated and appropriately reported in provision and tax filings.

  • Responsible for proactive state tax planning and cash tax mitigation in the areas of corporate income and franchise, property and sale & use taxes, working closely with the State and Local Tax team.

  • Ensure ETR and cash tax savings are achieved in line with annual targets.

  • Monitor and anticipate legislative changes to U.S. federal and state and local tax laws, identifying opportunities and adverse consequences.

  • Identifying cost saving opportunities in terms of tax optimization or process improvements.

  • Build and manage team member, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency, and mentor other members of the US-Domestic tax team.

Qualifications:

  • Strong industry, HLBV, partnership tax technical, ASC740, modeling and compliance skills preferred.

  • BS Accounting/CPA/MST or LLM strongly preferred.

  • Eight years or more of experience; Big 4 accounting firm and large corporation tax department experience preferred.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.

  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; tailor information to convey, timely, the most relevant data and decision points with various audiences (e.g. AES leaders, JV Partners, Tax Equity, supervisors, tax peers and financing and business teams).

  • Excellent problem solving, strategic & creative thinking and interpersonal skills.

  • Travel within the US may be required.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $167.000 and $208.250/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment.
