Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Associate I - Mercer County for the 4-H Youth Development program.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Provides professional support to Mercer County 4-H's STEM initiatives.
- Targets youth enrolled in out-of-school programs throughout Trenton and surrounding communities.
- Supports the Rutgers 4-H STEM Ambassadors, Tomorrow's Innovators 4-H Science Saturday Program, STEM Pathfinders Summer Academy, 4-H STEM Lab (small makerspace), and teen-led STEM outreach for youth from a variety of Trenton-based collaborating organizations.
- Handles STEM program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Handles program marketing and public relations; and recruitment, training, and supervision of 4-H teen and adult volunteers.
- Participates in appropriate departmental, Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE), New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES), School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS), University and County administrative functions.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in education, youth development, or related STEM field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Two years of related professional experience after a bachelor's degree.

Certifications/Licenses |
- A valid driver's license would be required for this position.
- Ability to successfully complete National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Experience or coursework in engaging youth with STEM projects.
- Experience with any of the following or similar: Tinkercad, 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl and paper cutters (Cricut Maker), K-12 robotics kits (LEGO, VEX, littleBits), basic block coding (Scratch, MakeCode), Python, Arduino, micro:bit, Makey-Makey, engineering design projects, etc.
- Experience or coursework in youth development programming, volunteer management and/or collaboration/coalition building.
- Experience in managing people and evidence of effective human relations skills.
- Experience in public speaking and written business-level communication.
- Demonstrated interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in working with diverse audience/clientele.
- Demonstrated evidence of effective human relations skills.
- Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse clientele.
- Ability to start and complete a project with minimal supervision; self-directed.
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple job tasks.
- Ability to address changing technology to serve clientele.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
