About Salesforce

Salesforce is the #1 AI CRM, where humans with agents drive customer success together. Here, ambition meets action. Tech meets trust. And innovation isn't a buzzword - it's a way of life. The world of work as we know it is changing and we're looking for Trailblazers who are passionate about bettering business and the world through AI, driving innovation, and keeping Salesforce's core values at the heart of it all.

Ready to level-up your career at the company leading workforce transformation in the agentic era? You're in the right place! Agentforce is the future of AI, and you are the future of Salesforce.

Slack's Security Engineering team is seeking an accomplished Staff Software Engineer to architect the future of our internal identity and access fabric. This is not an operations role; this is a software engineering role with a security focus.

You will be a technical leader responsible for designing, building, and delivering the critical, highly-available services that protect Slack's core infrastructure and empower our employees. You will write code, design distributed systems, and set the long-term technical vision for how identity is managed at a global scale.

What you will be doing:
  • Architect and Build: Lead the design and hands-on development of scalable, resilient, and secure Identity and Access Management (IAM) services from the ground up using languages like Go, Python, and Java.

  • Drive Technical Strategy: Define the long-term technical roadmap for the identity platform at Slack. Lead complex build-vs-buy analyses and own the architecture for integrating third-party systems (Okta, SailPoint, AWS IAM) via robust, well-documented APIs and event-driven services.

  • Lead Cross-Functional Initiatives: Serve as the technical authority on large-scale projects, including the strategic initiative to engineer a unified identity fabric between Slack and Salesforce. You will influence technical direction across multiple organizations.

  • Engineer for Scale & Reliability: Design and implement mission-critical distributed systems on AWS. Instrument these services with advanced monitoring, observability, and alerting to guarantee service-level objectives (SLOs).

  • Develop Sophisticated Automation: Go beyond simple scripting. Architect and build automation frameworks and services to eliminate manual toil, reduce risk, and enable secure, self-service access control across the enterprise.

  • Mentor and Elevate: Act as a force multiplier for the team and the broader engineering organization. Mentor senior and junior engineers, establish best practices for secure software development, and lead by example through high-quality code contributions and design reviews.

What you should have:
  • A proven track record of 12+ years in software engineering, with at least 8 years spent architecting and building large-scale, critical backend systems.

  • Expert-level proficiency in one or more high-level programming languages such as Go, Python, or Java.

  • Demonstrated expertise in distributed systems architecture, data structures, and algorithms. You have designed, built, and operated microservices in a cloud environment.

  • Deep, hands-on experience with public cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and infrastructure-as-code frameworks like Terraform and Kubernetes.

  • Experience architecting and building solutions in one or more of the following domains: authentication, authorization, identity lifecycle management, directory services, or access governance.

  • A profound understanding of security principles, threat modeling, and secure software development lifecycles.

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and executive audiences, driving alignment and influencing decisions.

  • A Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience demonstrated by a strong portfolio of shipped products or significant open-source contributions.

What's more important to us than a number is the skills you've developed, regardless of the length of time it took to get where you are. Do you have 15+ years of experience? Great! Please apply. Have only two years but feel you meet the requirements above? We look forward to hearing from you.
