*The range provided is based on cost of living/geography and what we believe is reasonable in the market at the time of posting. This role may be eligible for annual bonus and annual merit increase, as well as long term compensation. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors.

How You'll Perform the Role

The Capital Buyer is responsible for the strategic procurement of high-value equipment, machinery, construction services, and other capital assets for an organization. This role involves evaluating supplier proposals, negotiating contracts, and ensuring purchases align with the company's budget and strategic goals. The Capital Buyer will collaborate with various departments, including engineering and finance, to assess technical specifications and cost-effectiveness.



  • Analyze quotations received, recommend, and select suppliers.
  • Interface with and manage all commercial aspects of assigned supplier relations including, but not limited to, supplier agreements, sourcing new suppliers, monitoring overall supplier performance, resolving invoice/price discrepancies, supporting escalation of quality issues and supplier development/follow-up.
  • Review existing, and where necessary, establish new contracts: including planning and completing annual price negotiations for responsible commodities to achieve cost savings goals. Support Purchasing team members in escalation rounds for all the above.
  • Review all Capital commodities and find North American & Global sources
  • Person will source materials from suppliers at the lowest cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source and urgency of need. Buyer will study market trends and suppliers, recommending sources of supply and will work closely with Project Purchasing in various plants to identify and realize potential savings projects.
  • Participate in annual business planning process for responsible commodities.
  • Knowledge and experience with material field purchasing of specific commodities, strategic sourcing and negotiations. Able to develop strategic plan to achieve year over year savings while maintaining quality and delivery excellence and a stable yet flexible supply base.
  • Personal requirements key to success are negotiations, organization, able to communicate and present effectively, strategic thinking and planning, and excellent data analytics.
  • Perform other essential and related duties as may be assigned.


What We Need From You

Skills and Qualifications:



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Suite skills
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement processes and contract management.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g., Coupa, Maximo, SAP) is preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, supply chain management, or a related field is required.
