What you'll be doing...
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to join our VZCloud DevOps team. You will play a crucial role in developing, deploying, and maintaining our infrastructure and applications in the on-prem cloud platform, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and tools. Your expertise will help us ensure continuous integration and delivery, enabling rapid development and deployment cycles. The Devops Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality products and a reduced time to market and SLAs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Providing both functional and technical leadership to the Verizon Cloud DevOps team, encompassing architecture, design, and implementation of solutions utilizing industry-standard tools and technologies. Enabling and supporting CI/CD automation through comprehensive pipelines that include builds, deployments, security and code scans, as well as integration testing. Collaborating closely with engineers, operations, product managers, and other stakeholders to address organizational needs and maintain competitiveness, ensuring optimal application availability, scalability, and performance from the infrastructure level upward. Continuously evaluating existing processes and practices, and proactively recommending and driving improvements. Assessing competitive products and technologies, and offering informed recommendations-leveraging demos and proof-of-concepts-to help shape product and technology direction. Overseeing application deployments and rollbacks. Monitoring and analyzing hardware resources, security, operating systems, service logs, and performance metrics using centralized tools to identify and resolve issues. Partnering with performance engineers to review and optimize software design and code, enhancing both performance and capacity. Creating and maintaining thorough documentation for software designs, code, and processes, and sharing expertise with team members through code reviews, presentations, and mentorship. Developing, deploying, and maintaining Hadoop Spark Scala jobs. Keeping up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in software development, and participating in relevant training and conferences to further develop skills and knowledge.
What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience. A minimum of four years of relevant experience, demonstrated through professional, military, or specialized training. Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Hands-on DevOps experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift. Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps tools such as ArgoCD, Bamboo, Jenkins, Git, Ansible, and Artifactory. Experience working with web server technologies like Apache and Tomcat. Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting applications using Python and shell scripting. Experience configuring and managing synthetic and APM monitoring tools such as ELK, Prometheus, Kibana, Grafana, and New Relic. Knowledge of messaging systems like RabbitMQ, Kafka, SwiftMQ, or JMS. Experience with big data technologies, including Hadoop and Spark. A background in reviewing application performance metrics and proactively addressing performance issues. Experience configuring operators on the OpenShift platform. Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving application and network issues efficiently to minimize downtime. Experience building scalable and resilient high-performance infrastructures. Familiarity with databases such as MariaDB, Cassandra, and Redis. Knowledge of load balancers like NGINX and HAProxy. Understanding of MLOps and Large Language Models (LLMs). A bachelor's degree in computer science (or equivalent) with eight or more years of relevant experience, or a master's degree in computer science (or equivalent) with six or more years of relevant experience. The ability to work independently and see tasks through to completion.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
